Description
Only way this makes any sense to Detroit is if this is the trades or something like this. I'm sure Pens fans won't like it but we don't really have any reason to trade for him. We can sign multiple better options for cheaper or even over pay and still be cheaper.
Pittsburgh gets 9.375M of cap cleared this season and 6.25M next season.
Nylander is just a low risk change of scenery candidate swap with Veleno. Veleno actually provides them with something there could use in a young 3C.

Just added more cap dumps cause why not

Not supposed to be realistic, but I wouldn't complain

Veleno will not get that big of a return. I know you dumped some cap, but teams could just offer sheet him if they really wanted lol

I mean I don't think he fetches that much, but we are taking on:
Jeff Petry and Jeff Carter's full contract

VAN isn't gonna have to pay to dump Myers, after July 1 his bonus will be paid out and he'll only be needing $1M of actual salary, a team like ARZ would love to bring him in to reach the cap floor and then flip him with retention at the deadline for a pick. He may suck but hes still a 6'8" RD who can skate very well

Arizona doesn't need anymore cap. Only team that might be interested in that is maybe Anaheim and why would they pay for him?

cant imagine carter waives, and petry could net you a small positive if you retain some cap.

I would expect an agreement be made where Carter doesn't even play. He's healthy enough to play so can't LTIR. He's fried and they want to get rid of him but is still owed 3M. A buyout is still the full cap hit but is 1M less salary. Penguins could realistically but him out and save 1M in cash but still be stuck with his cap hit. This way he still gets the 3M salary he is owed.

Would have to retain a pretty penny to even get a 5th in return

For a mid 1st + mid 2nd for a bridge dman and 1 year cap dump?
We're not gonna be strapped for cash next year, why not.

Exactly my thoughts. Almost 16M in cap over the next two years. Gives them some flexibility plus I threw in a young 3/4C which they would need to replace Carter. He still has room to grow and might excel on a different team. I take Nylander for the same reason, to change of scenery to maybe spark something.
