Description
Trading Carter is next to impossible, but in the final year of his contract maybe it's possible the Pens can sit down with him and find somewhere he'd like to retire and settle to.

ANA might make some sense since he was in Cali for so long and it's close to LA.

Jeff Carter waiving the NMC that Ron Hextall gave him 13 months ago, to leave a contender and head to a bottom 5 team because "It's close to LA!", is a weird take.

I'd take the 2nd and do it, but there's a zero percent chance this happens. Reminds me of the hundreds of "Muzzin to Anaheim because it's close to LA!".

Such a hard thing to prognosticate. No idea what the cap will look like or what the Pens' contention situation will be after next year.

Yeah, I mean, everything that I said there was a response to your description my friend.

"Trading Carter is next to impossible (Correct), but in the final year of his contract maybe it's possible the Pens can sit down with him and find somewhere he'd like to retire and settle to (See: Comment regarding Hextall giving him a NMC 13 months ago).

ANA might make some sense since he was in Cali for so long and it's close to LA (See: Comment regarding Muzzinfest '22, where Leafs fans kept sending him to sunny Socal)"

If my big miss here is that you're convincing him to say "Screw it" to the $3 mil he'd be leaving on the table by retiring but still counting against the Ducks cap, then my apologies.

To be completely fair here though, I feel like if he retired, you'd be stuck with a recapture penalty, no?

I saw your Muzzin comment, but my first comment basically implies everything after what I'm saying is unlikely. Also, the Muzzin situation isn't close to the same situation. Carter is likely one year from retirement, not moving on to keep playing. He was apprehensive to leave LA because he didn't want to uproot his family, so he may have roots there. It's not that big of a stretch for a player in his situation to retire where him and his family built a life.

If he retired it would actually be easier. I'm not 100%, but I think the Pens can trade his contract if he retires.
