Right so I'd be paying a 1st for the retention, basically.

I think he'd be a good add to the top 6, in turn fixing the 3rd line

Just because leafs shouldn't touch him at 5 mil doesn't mean Vancouver sells and retains. 4 years is sooo much term for retention for a team that let their captain walk because they couldn't sign him

Apparently they want a useful player for him, not picks. I could see them go for a Kerfoot - Garland swap (don't think the Leafs would be interested due to Garland's hit) if the Leafs add something.

Leafs would rather have the cap flexibility for Bunting, Nylander and Matthews renegotiation. Let alone attempting to resign O'Reilly. Again, 5mil is too much for a bottom 6 guy

I totally agree. I don't think the Leafs are going to take on any guys with term. If they do, it would probably be someone they are willing to let Bunting walk for and probably have only 2-year term.
