This is a pretty equitable trade.

Vancouver gets a good, young RFA and they keep their 1st.

Red Wings lose a good young, RFA but get an additional 1st this year (or next) that they can use or flip for another asset.

Canucks need to rebuild with prospects. This trade likely takes them from a top 5 pick in the draft to the 10-15 range AND loses them two draft picks in one of the deepest drafts of the modern era. All FA wants is that first-round playoff cash.

Not really

You got the pieces that matter
Now build on those

Just no more Eriksson ,Beagel,Rousell, Boeser,Garland,Ferland,Pearson and Myers deals and youll be fine
Thats where you guys get in trouble as your GMs have all left eachother mess's to clean up first

Still shocked he went that cheap though
Ive tried trading for him before on here and DET fans wanted a decent amount more

I wish I could believe this, but if you're not a Canucks fan you don't understand. Every GM/President that Frencesco Aquillini hires is a puppet. He will only hire guys that say "we can turn this around in 2-3 years". Well it's been 10. NO matter who has the title, FA is the one pulling the strings.

So it's Horvat and a 2nd for Beauvillier, Hronek, Raty and a 3rd.

I see Raty as a really good 3rd line centre, so...solid. Not spectacular, but solid.

I understand the poster's frustration, but they said all along they weren't rebuilding. They are looking for players that fit the age group with Petey, Hughes and Demko. Hronek does that, and FINALLY upgrades the right side of the blueline.

Given the latest rankings I've seen, even if they do rise up in the draft a bit, they'll still have a shot at Yager or Moore.

Outside of the Horvat trade tree, I'm not all that impressed with Alvin's trades so far, but let's see what he does by Friday.

On a side note: The Canucks are ALREADY OVER THE CAP FOR NEXT SEASON. With Miller and Kuzmenko's extensions kicking in they have 83.6m committed.

Is it that cheap? That's 11-15 this year and unprotected next year, if not. AND another 2nd rounder this year in a deep draft, which is equivalent to a solid prospect. Pretty solid return.

We need prospects. Best way to build a contender is through drafting

They literally ran out for cap space for next season already. This is simply an admission that they will never rebuild. That is the message of the trade that is bothering Canucks fans IMO

Didnt say it was cheap in general just compared to what DET fans wanted in trades for him.
Its almost like DET fans overvalued him and i get it being a RD
I just dont the motivation unless its part of a bigger plan like swapping out Sandin for Mccabe was in TML

Almost everyone on here overvalues players (especially their own). I am actually pretty pleased with the return.

I think the motivation for Yzerman is simply more draft capital in a deep draft. Hronek is good but can be replaced down the line is due a big raise in 2 years.

Dorion has turned into a menace since he got his freedom from Melnyk and McGuire. Yzerman.

The picks are very different. One is a UFA the other is an RFA. The Chychrun trade is underwhelming but comparing them is dumb.

We go through it everytime a Molson buys back the Habs.
Molson is forced to sell to Gillette and we draft Halak, Plekanec, Streit, Price, The Kostitsyn's ,Ememlin,Desharnais, Higgins, Mcdonugh , Subban,Pacioretty and MTL's last league leading Power Play System .
Molson is forced to sell to Bronfmans and draft Lafleur, Robinson, Gainey , Shutt, Tremblay, Risenbrough, Mondou,Wilson , Lee, Langway , Napier, Roberts, Fetisov , Acton , Nilan and Hunter were left with a 5 time stanley cup championship core .

Molson the in the 1970s rode the Bronfmans team as long as they could but got lucky with Roy being drafted and began immediate changes to build a team for him to lead .
After many key changes with a lot of Rookies with the right mix of Veterans they won a Cup as Underdogs in the Decade of Gretzky and Oilers battle of Alberta with Calgary.

Molson in 2009 wasted a good chunk of our prospect pool to acquire Gomez only for Molsons replacement for Gainey to make a bunch of costly changes to bring in his guys.
Then proceeds to trade and strip MTL's last Point Per Game playoff performer of his jersey mid game in a move that eventually cost him his job as management at any level outside a stint in Draft Dept (fired now). Making all those big changes for nothing then re-adjusting during the 2012 lockout to build around Plekky , Desharnais, Pacioretty , Subban , Markov and Price with Emelin ,Eller, Chucky and Gally as NHL level youth pieces to build on for Marc Bergavin the new GM .

Molson scrapped Gainey's build for Gauthiers which was scapped less then 2 years later for Bergavin's
MB now had 2 GM's worth of contracts to deal with from Moen to Gionta it wasnt easy for a New GM at any level to take on such burdens while learning a new job.

So believe me when i say MTL fans have empathy truly.
But what you've got to hope for is a GM like Hughes who found a way to balance things.
I mean who thought Dadanov would get Gurianov ? Or MTL would get a 1st to take Monahan who might have played himself into an extension in MTL.
I mean he moved Petry's contract for a profit as we now got the younger better defensman on the better contract and teams are calling as he doesnt fit into our rebuild timeline wise.

IF you're GM isnt a hustler who has a guy like Gorton completely overhauling the system like Linden tried to , then you're teams boned.
But remember anytime you think your GM is to hands on , MTL is the only NHL team that has its owner in a Management Role and only the 2nd time in MTL History it happened.
After his 3rd GM and so many missed playoffs Molson Breweries was putting on pressure during the pandemic until MTL won the playin series earning a playoff spot after they were technically eliminated. It bought Molson some time hence the true effort this time and he's fading into the background unlike previous years.

Your guy isnt always injured like Chychrun is by comparison
to date his only full season was his rookie year 68 game
Thats on a non playoff team that went to the post season once in his 7 years pro

Hronek isnt much better but is slightly more consistent playing 305 to Chyrchuns 373 in 2 few seasons with only 5 months difference in Age.
With Hronek being a RFA over UFA i'd say VAN is the winner of the two as they paid less and potential got a more consistent player who produces at the same level and is a Right Handed Shot.

Given how OEL worked out for you guys i think you were smart going a different direction getting a player i didnt even know was on the board.
This is one of those small victories you should savor
