Because Tuch is injured and you need a body to fill a RW spot and Appleton is a decent bottom six player to fill in with the rest of your RW moving up a spot until Tuch returns as I don't see Buffalo trading for a first or second line RW in the meantime, but maybe there are better options I don't know.

who we just inserted into the lineup in our top6 & he fit well

And if he struggles or gets hurt, we also have Asplund waiting to get back in the lineup

fair enough we could argue Hinostroza > Appleton but not a big deal, I don't see Buffalo trading for a top six guy unless it's a young player with term on contract if they do squeak into playoffs they aren't going to make much noise their timeline is a few years down the road.
