Why wouldn't Nashville accept. Three full years of Ekholm at 6.25m off their books. Ekholm isn't the player he was once was. Seems to be an obsession with Oiler fans, to take on expensive aging Dmen.

Says someone who probably never watches Ekholm play. But I’m sure you will say you do but then I’ll say you haven’t because if you did you would see Ekholm hasnt declined any. And probably is one of the better defensive defenseman in the league still

The picks are nice, but a meh prospect and two cap dumps aren't. NSH should get better offers than this.

I think your evaluations on these 3 are a bit harsh. Nashville will have to take money back in any trade regardless.

EDIT: Unless they retain a good chunk, which I'd assume they'd prefer to not..

I would be surprised of NSH has to take back some salary or retain on Ekholm. NSH would need a package with a better secondary piece than a 3rd or Lavoie though.

I haven't looked into it too much, but I don't think there are a ton of teams with 6.25 M in cap space that are looking to add a 32 y/o D

Sorry about the confusion. Still to my point though, top four defencemen are always in demand. NSH shouldn't have much trouble finding good value for Ekholm. Maybe not even by the deadline though. They could always wait to trade him in the summer. The list of UFA defensemen this summer is pretty underwhelming.

No worries. I thought this was not bad value, but I wouldn't have a problem with the Oilers giving a bit more or changing the structure of the deal. There is a lot of talk about Ekholm right now on local shows here so we'll see where it goes! Should be an interesting week.
