Description
EDM needs to improve on defence.

Matheson is breaking out as of late (this season and last) and blossoming into an impact player and top 4 d. He has term on a great contract for the rest of his prime.

EDM pays the price to improve their roster during Mcdavid and Draisailt's prime.

Being a bad metric and being absolutely useless in every case or two different things. What OP is saying makes sense. On a team like Montreal, one would expect Matheson to have an awful plus minus. Instead, he’s got +9. It doesn’t make or break the deal by itself, but it’s a useful piece of information.

Except that it isnt useful information, not even a little. The stat literally measures something that a player can have zero say in no matter how good they are

neither is Holloway and a 1st lol

if EDM wants to lure him out of MTL, yes.

He's not on the block for a reason.

Who are Edmontons other options as of right now?

Here come the Habs fans to disagree! 🤭

Not really ,you'll notice its a TML and EDM fan arguing to keep him in MTL or that his value is sky high.
Byrr is a TML fan and Koskinen the Great is a EDM fan .

We get blamed a lot but like most of MTL's Social Media you have to look closer , there's always a ton of Maple Leaf's fans .(EDM not so much but thats who Koskinen the Great likes )
Matheson playing is a bonus and while he has value MTL is more concerned about moving him with no contracts back .
We still want value but we're not looking for unprotected picks and top prospects in general.

I know the guys posting is off but not by that much.

Make that 1st a conditional 2nd where Matheson has to make win 2 rounds with EDM to get a 1st round pick ensuring its a 26th-32nd overall pick
Instead of Holloway we'd probably be more interested in Laval Local and Waiver Exempt soon to be 27 year old RD in his Prime years we will call it mid point.
Clearly not part of the long term plans for EDM

Conditional 2nd
Desharnais
Puljujarvi who you'll lose on waivers soon anyways the way he's playing in EDM

MTL gets what it needs
EDM gets what they need
Worst case if EDM cant clear the extra 450k needed MTL will include Byron for LTIR relief purposes buying EDM nearly 3m extra space at TDL

The hell is your obsession with +/-. Sure, its not super effective but I'd love for you to try and find me another habs dman with a positive +/-. It still holds some weight given context.

Edit: just checked myself, try and find ANY player on MTL.

What obsession? I made one crack at it and you acted like i said goals dont matter as a stat.
And again +/- is, outside of being a curiosity in extreme situations, utterly useless in every way for identifying anything good or bad about a players abilities

Karlsson, Mccabe im sure they called in on Chychrun as well like almost everyteam has so far Holloway and a first is fs involved in a Karlsson or Chychrun deal

But that’s exactly what I’m arguing. Montreal is an extreme case.

whatever you say mr. "im brainwashed into believing +/- is a random stat generator that holds no value even with context and comparison to teammates"

Erik Karlsson are you serious? Not gonna happen mid season and probably not even a good idea in general

Mccabe has 1 year left, will cost a 1st + , and isn't even as good as Matheson.

And if they strike out on Cychrun, then what?

No it isnt, an extreme case is when Brett Lebda goes-3 when his team wins 9-3.
There are multiple teams every year about as bad as the habs this year and you can probably find a random player or 3 on every team that has a oddly high looking +/-

Karlsson the front runner for the Norris and hes found himself again and playing him with Mcdavid and Draisaitl on the Power play will be lethal.

Chychrun most likely destination is LA tbh

Also Gavrikov is another option for them aswell as Luke Schenn but I highly doubt they are interested in Schenn

would love for you to find me a dman with good actual point production, a good +/- and good analytics playing on a massively negative team. Goodluck

what is Gavrikov or Schenn gonna do for them? Seriously.

Schenn is a stay at home defencemen who throws the body so he adds physicality and Gavrikov is pretty good defencivly and he can throw the body too
