Both Downey and Quincey were pending RFA's with 1 year left til they became UFA eligible and that didnt fit into their teams plans.
But neither COL or TBL wanted what the other had to make the deal work .

Only mistake DET really made was underestimating Stevie Y's Protege and his ability to develop players.
Vasilevsky wasnt a top pick but instead similar to Hrbal this year in many ways.
Hrbal could be steller in many teams systems but if he gets lets say ARZ since Burke left or EDM where Goalies career's go to die .
Then there's no way he becomes a Vasilevsky . But if he ended up in lets say MTL or DET he'd likely become Amazing.

Where you were after your last cup run and unwilling to fire Holland , you should be glad it wasnt worse after letting that man coast for 5-6 years on auto pilot

Sure and I remember Yzerman drafting Brett Connolly with the 6th pick and Slater KoekKoek with the 10th pick, sometimes you screw it up.

I also remember Yzerman turning Drouin into Sergachev. But I suppose most people will give JBB credit for that one too. He gets credit for everything else.

That's the point sometimes you get it right sometimes you get it wrong. Droiun can turn into Sergachev but sometimes you draft Tony D'Angelo and it turns into Libor Hajek. He makes mistakes it's ok.
