Assuming one of Edmundson/Savard is moved at the deadline, Montreal has 8 NHL defensemen in Edmundson/Savard, Matheson, Barron, Harris, Wideman, Guhle, Xhekaj, and Kovacevic signed for next year.

Kovacevic has strong analytics and is signed for nothing for the next two seasons, and with a logjam of NHL caliber D, a rebuilding MTL capitalizes on his value and get a 5th round pick, plus a reclamation project in Wilde, a former 2nd round pick RD from MTL whose fallen out of favor with Lou and is currently in the ECHL.

Seattle Acquired Bjorkstrand to be a goal scorer, but hasn’t scored goals like he has previously (low shooting %). In 10 less games while getting 4 less minutes per night, Daniel Sprong has more goals and the same amount of points. Turning a 3rd and a 4th into a year of Bjorkstrand, a 2nd, and a D prospect in Salo (Seattle doesn’t seem to have a lot of defensive depth signed for next season) is good asset management.
