This is way too convoluted and makes no sense for Ottawa. While Weegar is historically better than Zub, Zub is playing better than Weegar right now and has a better contract.
Ottawa also cannot fit all this money in long term. This entire trade is a mess.
Then you add in the equivalent of 3 first round picks and a 2nd round pick to buy up distressed players who are massively underperforming HUGE contracts? It makes zero sense.
The Senators aren't touching Huberdeau. They also have Debrincat, who will need an extension, who they arguably cannot fit in while improving the defense and goaltending. This is like one of those NHL trade proposals that the computer offers you that just makes zero sense because the computer isn't programmed to actually understand the makeup of your team.
Something like a base of Debrincat+Zaitsev for Huberdeau+Weegar is the only thing that remotely makes sense from Ottawa's POV and filling their needs. Even then, there is zero chance Ottawa would do that because of the nature of Huberdeau's contract.
If Calgary sells off either of Weegar or Huberdeau, they will get pennies on the dollar because it will be nearly impossible to convince a team to take a 9.5M x 8 year contract that has a NMC and heavy signing bonuses for a player who this season has 36 points.
