Domi sucks, he'd be like Galchenyuck where he does some stuff in the offensive zone that people like but he'll also make blatantly horrible defensive plays that cost us way more than anything he creates. Domi is one of the laziest players in the league in his own zone. Hard pass

I disagree obviously. I believe he would fit perfectly in our top 6 and is a low cost option now and moving fwd. He also played jr with Marner in London. He is also familiar with the city , the team and the culture.

It's a nostalgia sentiment. He isn't good, has literally 1 good season under his belt and is one of the worst defensive players in the league. He doesn't fit in TO's top 6 because he doesn't forecheck well, is smaller and isn't physical. The role that needs filling in the top 6 is a Bunting esq player for JT and Domi just isn't that type of player. He has a false reputation of being a gritty scrapper but he isn't, he's a 1 dimensional scorer that isn't that good at offence.

There isn’t many people like you. Saying facts. If leaf’s do get him I’d put him on the fourth line. He’s no more then a fourth line guy

And at that with how our 4th line is used, I would still want almost anyone else rather than him.

Agree that Domi is vastly overrated (but that’s not his fault, fans of non playoff teams always overrate their players, see Canucks) but if the price for 50% retained Domi is no higher than 3rd + mid prospect, I’d at least consider it. He can add offense which is something we need from bottom 6

Lets say he adds 10 goals to the bottom 6 the rest of the way, guaranteed he also means they allow 15 more goals against. He's a negative player.

Not necessarily; if he plays with Kampf/Engvall or new 4C/ZAR - they are both very strong defensive pairs & could help overcome his defensive deficiencies. Not saying it would be my first choice but it's not horrendous

That's just wishful thinking. Kampf is effective when he has 2 linemates that are also sound defensively, giving him a liability is going to sap any offence they can create. If both of Domi's linemates need to cover for him, that means Domi will be alone trying to creat offence because no one can trust that he'll make smart plays that will cost us. He's way too much of a liability defensively and doesn't create enough on his own to wash they out.

Sometimes there is overreaction on both sides - I don’t think Domi is worth a 1st or 2nd, but he is not the defensive disaster you make him out to be. Hyperbole doesn’t really help

Domi's GF% this season is 48.15% and that's outscoring his expected GF% by 7%. He's been lucky this year and still is negative. High danger SCF% is just above 40% and that's with a stunning 63% offensive zone start. The numbers are clear. He starts in the offensive zone more often than not, and ends up giving up way more offence against than he creates in kushy deployments. How can he possibly be expected to contribute with worse linemates (offensively anyways, he does play with Kane) likely more defensive matchups, in a system that isn't one he would really work well in? TO wants low event, sound defensive hockey from the bottom 6. We shouldn't care how much offence we get, we just need to win those minutes which is what's happened all season so far. Yeah some guys want to see 6 goals for every game and a high flying transition team that scores at will but those teams get scored on too much and it's not going to work in the playoffs vs Tampa and Boston.

Domi sucks

Johnny Gaudreau, Patrick Kane, Trevor Zefras all have similar terrible numbers. For sure, it’s partly the terrible teams they play for. To each his own, but I’d take Domi (retained) on 3rd line if acquisition cost was acceptable

The difference is, he's never looked that good. He's always had mediocre underlying numbers and downright dreadful defensive results. His whole career. It's just the name and public reputation that people like but his actual game play is not what people think it is.
