Description
Armchair General Manager over here. I can't imagine we will trade 4 players and get 6 draft picks in return but as a Blues fan I would love to see us stockpile as many picks as possible to begin a poper "rebuild".

Secondly, I would prefer us to move out some defensemen (Krug, Parayko) but with the current Cap situation for the majority of teams I don't see a realistic opportunity to move any Dmen at the deadline. Unless we retain salary, which the Blues are notorious for avoiding.

Value isn’t bad but don’t think there’s a ton of interest in ROR given his situation

Leafs add a fifth round pick and a 6th round pick to the ROR trade and the Barbashev trade and take ROR at half retained and steal him from Carolina and Vegas

Take him. Foligno 2.0 (in terms of situation)

Yes because a 5th round pick and 6th round pick is appealing.

No shot NJD does that. Mercer doesn’t make sense for them to move.

That return is too light for ROR. Would be surprised if RORs return was less than Tarasenkos.

Could be fine for Barbashev. Would have to guess the ask is a 2+ though.

Yes because a broken foot and back issues are certainly the same thing. And Nick Foligno prior to the injury was a selke caliber center and a conn smythe winner. Comparing the two is a joke.

I said situation, not player. You think it’ll be easy to bounce back from a broken foot and going to a new team? Expecting ROR to regain his form from 1-2 years ago is a stretch this year. Afterwards with a full off season to train and get his body rifht? Sure, why not. But not this year and the price to acquire is likely steep. My point is I hope canes don’t go down that route so I’d happily see him go to leafs for whatever price.

Take a chill pill!

You do realize I'm saying that if that's the best offer, the Leafs add a little bit and steal both players

The situation is an injury. And being traded as a UFA. Nothing else is remotely similar in regards to the two. And yes I expect him to fully bounce back with a foot injury. He played 23 minutes the game it was broken.

Feet injuries bone specifically and back issues are vastly different. It’s often times impossible to fully diagnose what’s wrong with a back. Especially in the short term. I’d expect ROR to have 5-10 games needed to get back to speed of the game. But broken bones typically don’t linger. Back issues do.

The player is vastly different too. Foligno had one very good season scoring around 70 points. ROR has a career average of aeound 60. You have a 3rd line matchup center vs a 2nd line matchup center.

The situation really isn’t all that similar at all.

Foot injuries also tend to linger and are very hard to train with during the injury until it’s fully healed. Assuming a quick ramp up even gets him back to what he was before the injury this season is very optimistic. And seeing as how he wasn’t playing well when it happened you need him to get back to what he was before this season. Not doubting he’ll eventually get back to that but thinking he will this season while also juggling a move to a new team and city is pretty foolish imo.

The situations aren’t the same. Obviously not, it was a tongue in cheek comment that you’ve taken personally for some reason. The situations do have some of the same variables at play within them though. We’ll see how it plays out.

I don’t think personally is the right way to put it. More so annoyed with the constant comparison of Foligno and ROR for the narrative of generally trading for. They just aren’t comparable players. Apologies if it came off as directed towards you. It’s more so annoyance at the situation.

The biggest obstacle a team needs to juggle in terms of adding ROR would be finding a suitable linemate for him stylistically. He’s not a rush player whatsoever and never really has been. He’s a pucks on forecheck player. Personally I think he’d be great in Carolina, Toronto I’m not so sure about unless they use him in a heavy minute shutdown role and roll 3 lines to soften matchups for their top end offensive threats. The latter is what made the Blues very successful last season and in 2019 once they figured it out.

If circumstances were different and Detroit were in a playoff race it would certainly be an ideal situation to reunite Perron and ROR. Their games are molded perfectly for one another.

All good, appreciate the response here. That’s definitely helpful context. Again, I totally get the situations aren’t alike but couldn’t help myself with the TOR / Foligno comment from another poster. I’m sure you guys are getting tired of some of these trade offers for the same guys over and over on here.

Based on your analysis of his game the fit systemically would be pretty good. The issue there though is he’d likely be paired with Svech and Necas who do play somewhat of a forechecking style based on how rest of team plays, but their line has been the one who plays off the rush more than the rest of our lines based on their skill set. Still think it could work but not sure those would be the best linemates.

At the end of the day I just think it’s too risky with the injury he has for the canes to go after him. Especially when we just had a pretty devastating injury to somebody that seemed like a perfect fit for what we were missing. Obviously the injuries and everything are different with Patches and ROR but just the sentiment is do we want to go after a player who’s been battling an injury and recovery that might impede him from getting on track in a really short timeframe? My stance would be no but who knows what the front office is thinking.
