  1. Lorentz, Steven
  2. Meier, Timo (3 000 000 $ retained)
  3. Reimer, James
  4. Svechnikov, Evgeny
Détails additionnels:
*Leafs add the best top 6 LW forward available on the trade market, giving them a legitimate secondary scoring threat who also plays physical (something the Leafs desperately need if they want to win a playoff round, let alone the Cup!)

Timo Meier alone is worth the two 1st round picks and Knies, plus our top OHL prospect Ty Voit (currently 3rd overall in OHL scoring!) and young center Pontus Holmberg are both added to sweeten the deal for taking back Kerfoot for cap space and Meier's salary retention.
**Note: Kerfoot has a 10-team NTC so if San Jose is on his no trade list, Leafs might be sending Pierre Engvall instead.**

***Leafs add Reimer as a veteran backup goalie for injury insurance for the playoffs. Sharks receive a younger goalie Erik Kallgren who is a RFA after this season and much better than people realize (Leafs were awful to start the season and they did Kallgren no favors by suddenly forgetting how to score in close games!) Or instead of Kallgren, San Jose might want another draft pick instead (Toronto's 2024 4th round pick?)

****Leafs can add some more size to their bottom 6 with Svechnikov and Lorentz but these players were mainly included because both teams are at 49 SPC spots and Sharks would need to make room for the Leafs players in this trade.

Détails additionnels:
*Conditions: If the Leafs fail to win a playoff round in 2023, Toronto has the option to send San Jose an unprotected 2024 1st round pick (TOR) instead. San Jose will then also receive a 2023 3rd round pick (OTT) and 2023 5th round pick (TOR) if Toronto elects to send their unprotected 2024 1st round pick (TOR) instead of their 2023 1st round pick (TOR).

***Conditions: San Jose receives the 2025 3rd round pick (TOR) if Toronto wins the Stanley Cup in 2022-2023 and Timo Meier plays in at least 50% of Toronto's playoff games.

Not sure how the how this really helps the Leafs. Downgrade from Kerfoot and Holmberg to play Lorentz and Svechnikov. Then that's a real overpay to obtain Meier who the Leafs can't afford to resign.
Gee, the Isles paid mid first rounder, the equivalent of second rounder and semi cap dump to obtain Horvat. But somehow the Leafs pay two firsts, a third Knies and Vogt for Meier.

So here's my reasoning for the two 1sts, a 3rd, Knies & Voit for Meier vs. what Isles paid for Horvat: Meier is younger than Horvat and is still an RFA under team control after this season vs. Horvat who was a pending UFA. If the Leafs fail in the playoffs again this year, there will be major changes and I'd rather have the option to re-sign Meier and trade Nylander OR keep Nylander and trade Meier's rights to a team that can afford to extend him for draft picks and/or prospects. Either scenario is returning at minimum another 1st round pick for the Leafs, probably a 2nd rounder and/or top prospect(s). That's why the cost is higher to acquire Meier vs. Horvat.

Also Kerfoot cost the Leafs game 6 against Tampa last year, so I personally don't want him anywhere near the Leafs this spring! I know all players make mistakes but Kerfoot's cap hit is too high for what he brings, and his decision making skills are very questionable during key moments of a game. IMHO Leafs are better off without him, but will need to add an asset to get rid of him so Holmberg or another prospect has to go.

Additionally the Leafs can waive Lorentz and Svechnikov and if no one claims them, bury them in the minors and call up Bobby McMann, SDA, Gaudette or Steeves instead.

I couldn't agree more on your Horvat/Meier comparison, before horvat was traded if you proposed the leafs trading for horvat the demand on this site from the trolls was something similar to what you stated, leafs had to give up way more because they are the leafs.

If you try to propose a trade for discussion on this site that is somewhat around rumoured fair value for Meier or other rentals, anti leaf trolls will just hijack your post and claim that what you are proposing is "garbage", so you get posts like this where leafs must overpay to satisfy the site requirement that leafs must overpay because they are the leafs. I don't bother to post any ACGMs anymore because you can't even have a decent discussion, not worth dealing with the trolls. I read comments so far this morning in proposals involving Sandin and prospects like Minten referred to as "leaf garbage" and not worth anything. They are not A+ trade pieces, but to say they are leaf garbage is trolling.

There are a lot of bad ACGMs on this site by fellow leaf fans for sure lol, but I wish the site would do a little more about the trolling in the comment section.

What I find "interesting" (more disturbing) from CF fans, is when a Leaf player isn't a Marner/Matthews or Reilly they are cap dumps or really non NHLers.

For example 18m a night Sandin or 20m a night Holl are somehow no better than than 3rd pair Dmen. But trading them for a 20 minute a night UFA Dman r from a non playoff team (and adding a first and Knies somehow makes the Leafs sssoooooo much better.

Another popular trade going to the Leafs is ROR and Barbashov......gee it's 2023, I can't believe those two players get so much love that the Leafs have to dismantling their team this year and give up so many futures for 3rd liners

Very frustrating on the cap dump thing indeed...the fact that the team has managed to be the fourth best team in the league so far this season with so many cap dumps and non-NHLers in the lineup must be quite the head scratcher for leaf trolls.

I am all for moving pieces like sandin or our best prospects not named Knies in a package for a D or F upgrade if it makes the team better now and long term, but not for pending UFAs who don't move the needle much or at all. I think Knies can be a NHLer very soon and should only be traded in a package for a player with term who can make a huge difference. You need players like him on an ELC in the coming years.

I could get behind acquiring ROR or Barbashev, but only if the price is not dismantling the team and future like you stated. They have won a cup recently and would provide some necessary grit and experience, but at what cost? Dubas is in a tough spot this deadline, a lot of pressure to succeed in the playoffs.
