Peeks rumor
I really like this trade for the Leafs and I hope the rumours are true about the Leafs' interest in Peeke, however I think the reason CBJ might be willing to move Peeke is because they're already stacked on D, so I don't see them being interested in Brodie (another D). Brodie would probably have to be moved in a separate trade.

what do we think
Willy is younger than Pesce and just put up 40 goals & 87 points! He's worth way more than Pesce and a 2nd even without Conor Timmins being thrown in too! Any trade with Willy to CAR is some combo of Necas or Jarvis, and Pesce+1st round pick.

$15 ? $16? , do you guys not know the single player cap hit percentage.
Also try using the tax calculator, Vegas is in the Top 5 cities for best rates.</div></div>
The single player max cap hit percentage is 20% of the salary cap, so if the cap is $85mil like you suggested then $17m per season is what Matthews could demand. $15m or $16m would be less than max. No way Matthews signs for $13.4m/season even if Vegas gives him a huge tax break.

Lines Without Matthews and Tavares
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RC_82</b></div><div>No his logic isn't that - Kerfoot may not be putting up points, but his game has been better than bunting. Bunting plays with emotion. Before last game, he was shifting from his game, was getting pissed and arguing with refs for non calls. The demotion is to get him to figure it out. He did last game. when assessing Kerfoot you need to look at his game from a non point production aspect sadly. He may get paid too much but he does alot of the little things well. He will score soon, he's doing everything else right.
Nylander is second line because when matthews is healthy you spread out the top guys. when your roster is this depleted, you load it up</div></div>
I admit that I oversimplified the situation with Kerfoot as Keefe believing he is a top line guy over Bunts and Willy. I agree Bunting needed the demotion to figure things out, and hopefully he has or will soon. His game-tying goal against the Devils should greatly help his confidence going forward.
I also agree with what you said about spreading out the top guys when Matthews is healthy and loading up the top line when he's not playing. Hopefully Keefe sees it the same way.
I wish I had the same faith in Kerfoot as you do that he will eventually score soon, but he's been snake-bittten all year with a career low shooting percentage and missing wide open empty nets, fumbling breakaways and 2-on-1s, not scoring on penalty shots, etc. I feel bad for him because he is trying his best and working hard to do all the little things right and just isn't getting a lucky break, but with all of the grade A looks he's getting, he NEEDS to bury those chances! Would you trust him to score in a game 7 right now? And let's not forget his brain fart drop pass in game 6 last playoffs. Nice guy and great teammate but 0% finishing ability this year. He needs to sit in the playoffs but probably won't.

Keefe should absolutely 100% do this but he won't sit Rielly and Holl. We can still hope for a miracle though! 🙏

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RC_82</b></div><div>Real lines if Tavares and Matthews were out:

Gio - Holl/Schenn</div></div>
This is what I originally wanted to do (and what the Leafs SHOULD do if both Tavares and Matthews were out) but I was trying to get inside Keefe's head and unfortunately his current logic is that Kerfoot is a top line guy over Nylander and Bunting...

Anyway this is more of a doomsday scenario since one of JT or Matthews will definitely play if they are less hurt than the other one. Let's say it's JT in and Matthews rests to recover from his latest nagging injury.
The lines vs. Edmonton on Saturday could be:
Kerfoot - Tavares - Marner
Jarnkrok - Lafferty - Nylander
Bunting - Kampf - Acciari
AstonReese - Holmberg - Steeves
McCabe - Brodie
Rielly - Liljegren
Gio - Holl

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ToneCapone420</b></div><div>David Kampf at 1C made me throw up in my mouth</div></div>
I know it's not ideal but Kampf is really good defensively and has shown chemistry with Marner on the PK, so I think they could be an effective shutdown pair against another team's top line. Kerfoot is never scoring again so might as well put him in a defensive shutdown role as well.
Nylander, Jarnkrok and Lafferty seemed to work well together last game and managed to score an even strength goal against a top team in NJ. I think it's worth letting them get a few more games together to keep building chemistry.

offseason 2023 if Dubas stays
Also as much as I'd love Luke Schenn back again next season, I'm not sure if he sticks around because he loves Vancouver and didn't want to be traded in the first place. Plus he'd likely be a healthy scratch most nights unless the Leafs trade Rielly or Brodie in a major shakeup of the blue line this off-season. If the Leafs can convince Schenn to stay one more season, they would save an asset vs. trading for him again at next year's TDL.

I think you got the cap hits right for everyone, although I'm personally hoping ROR re-signs with TML for a little less lol. Under 4m/yr might be wishful thinking though since he could easily get 5m+/yr on the open market in FA. Leafs need ROR to come back though, his leadership skills & work ethic/competitiveness are both sorely needed on this team!

If Nashville Goes For Full Rebuild
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>earl08</b></div><div>Barry Trotz would roll over in his grave before trading Saros, lol</div></div>
True lol, but I think Nashville needs to consider whether or not they can be a true contender in the next 3 years before Saros' contract expires and he's a UFA who will likely walk if Nashville isn't making the playoffs. I know this trade happens only if Nashville is going for the full rebuild, not just a retool for next year.
Actually make that 2 years before Saros is a UFA in 2025. But his value is the highest right now while a team can potentially have him for 3 playoff runs including this season.

Crazy Blockbuster Trade Idea If Flyers Rebuild
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PeterK</b></div><div>so two 1sts, two top prospects for Konecny and Laughton? Yup, that would really help Phili reboot. They get the better players and the better picks.</div></div>
Our top prospects are not ready to help make an impact right now, and Leafs are in win now mode. Yes, it's a high price to pay but you have to give up something good to get something that can help the Leafs win now.

Leafs Go All In Blockbuster Trade with Sharks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Not sure how the how this really helps the Leafs. Downgrade from Kerfoot and Holmberg to play Lorentz and Svechnikov. Then that's a real overpay to obtain Meier who the Leafs can't afford to resign.
Gee, the Isles paid mid first rounder, the equivalent of second rounder and semi cap dump to obtain Horvat. But somehow the Leafs pay two firsts, a third Knies and Vogt for Meier.</div></div>
So here's my reasoning for the two 1sts, a 3rd, Knies & Voit for Meier vs. what Isles paid for Horvat: Meier is younger than Horvat and is still an RFA under team control after this season vs. Horvat who was a pending UFA. If the Leafs fail in the playoffs again this year, there will be major changes and I'd rather have the option to re-sign Meier and trade Nylander OR keep Nylander and trade Meier's rights to a team that can afford to extend him for draft picks and/or prospects. Either scenario is returning at minimum another 1st round pick for the Leafs, probably a 2nd rounder and/or top prospect(s). That's why the cost is higher to acquire Meier vs. Horvat.
Also Kerfoot cost the Leafs game 6 against Tampa last year, so I personally don't want him anywhere near the Leafs this spring! I know all players make mistakes but Kerfoot's cap hit is too high for what he brings, and his decision making skills are very questionable during key moments of a game. IMHO Leafs are better off without him, but will need to add an asset to get rid of him so Holmberg or another prospect has to go.
Additionally the Leafs can waive Lorentz and Svechnikov and if no one claims them, bury them in the minors and call up Bobby McMann, SDA, Gaudette or Steeves instead.

I think the trade is fair for both teams but this is assuming Winnipeg isn't one of the teams on Kerfoot's 10 team no-trade list. He probably wants to play for a contender and Winnipeg missed the playoffs last year.

Simple
I agree a 2nd and 3rd round pick for Kerfoot and Holl might be fair value under normal circumstances and if the Leafs weren't currently over the salary cap, but Leafs won't get fair value. They will need to sell low to unload any salary. Ducks aren't giving up a 2nd and 3rd when other teams in a cap crunch will include picks/prospects to dump salary. Ducks might trade at best a 5th and 6th for Kerfoot and Holl if they plan to flip them at TDL for more/higher picks.
