While a 1st without retention is very unlikely and at this point his injury makes him very unlikely to retuen a 1st or get traded at all the point you're making about getting paid to take him is ridiculous, so what ? They wanted to clear cap and they didn't know he'll play well coming back from surgery so they panicked and overpaid to dump him, now he's been very solid when healthy and therefore he has value again

There 100% has to be retention on Monahan but I sort of agree and disagree with you on value. I think it has to be a 2nd with conditions. Condition would have to be 2nd upgrades to a 1st based on GP and if the Avs make the 2nd round.

If the starting point is a 2nd for a player that hasn’t played in 2 months, Avs are out. Even if the Avs hit EVERY condition, the Habs would be lucky to net a 2nd on Monahan. Be realistic.
