You're right Larkin is better than Horvat, Larkin is a solid 200 foot Center. The only thing Horvat has on Larkin is he's a little better at putting the puck in the net. Larkin is more of a play maker than a sniper.
I have to disagree with parts of this take. Up until this season, Horvat was basically deployed as a shutdown 2C, and he was very good at that. Iirc, no forward in the last 3 seasons (prior to this one) had more D zone starts than Horvat. He was also good on faceoffs. For whatever reason, this season Horvat is getting a lot of offensive starts, and he is being rewarded; his shooting percentage is a good helper too.
Larkin is indeed a better playmaker. I'd argue that Horvat, based on body of work and not just thus year, is better defensively, but Larkin is better offensively. If I already had a 1C, I'd probably take Horvat to anchor the 2C and be one of the best shutdown centers in the league. If I didn't have a true 1C, I'd take Larkin all the way. Larkin is better overall, but Horvat offers something that is harder to come by. I will say, 8.5 is an overpay for Horvat, and Larkin now sees that and says 9-9.5.
