Description
People say Boston doesn't need to make a trade, but I think they should go for it. Who cares if Meier is only a rental? Look at what Tampa paid for players like Hagel and Paul. People don't care about the overpay because it won them championships. It's an opportunity to take and I'd be disappointed if Boston doesn't make a good move.

We'll see how much he lands. I was surprised Horvat didn't land more.

Late first, a C-level prospect and a 33-year old 4th line winger does not get you close to opening the conversation for TImo. Doesn't seem like a good fit for the Bruins.

For a rental that's a fair price. I agree SJ will get better offers from other teams.

I don't think you understand how important it is that he's going to be an RFA. He's not just a rental, you can go ahead and trade him after the season is over and get some assets back. Not only that, but he's also on track for 43+ goals this season. Playing the best hockey of his life at 26. The market starts at an grade-A prospect, 1st round pick, and a young, promising NHL player.

Dude, do you really think Boston could afford to give him his QO? Not at all. If we trade for him, we will have no choice but let him walk out because we need all our money to extend Pastrnak and Swayman.

Yes, but you still have the rights to him as a RFA. So they can trade him to Buffalo who has the money to match the QO if they can't agree on an extension at a lower AAV. Regardless, this is an awful return even if he went straight to UFA. Boston just doesn't have the assets to make it work so they're not even in the conversation

It’s not really important due to his QO. Teams are treating him as a UFA.

But there are so few teams that have the room to give him his QO, the RFA right deal would likely look closer to a UFA right deal than it would the standard RFA rights deal.

The bruins most certainly need to make a trade…multiple trades actually - just not this kind of trade. They don’t need to add to the top six. They need depth. A 4th RD option, a depth center (think Bjugstad), and a versatile winger. I thought Parise would be a perfect fit for the latter need, but doesn’t seem like the islanders are selling any time soon.

How about bonino for your 3rd round pick next year?

Why the hell should San Jose trade Meier to a team that can’t resign him and treat him as a rental? It’s not the sharks problem that Boston can’t resign him, they should trade him on a discount because of that

Do you have a source? I listen to 32 thoughts and occasionally read his blogs but have never seen him explicitly say this.

Well if you look at sharks sources they are allowing teams to speak extension prior to trade. Those teams will offer a higher price. And he’s a rfa either way that can be traded after the season so where’s the logic really

If they like what Meier’s agent has to say, that could be true, we don’t know that they will. Remember, he would only be an RFA if whatever team has him is willing to offer him a $10M contract.

Lol what? Beecher will max out as a third-line center but with just 9 points in the AHL this season, he is not even in the same realm as what should be the key piece in a Meier trade. That, plus a late first-round pick, and an old, over-paid third-liner who was waived this season for a 26-year-old, point-per-game sniper? Yikes. I wouldn't have even traded Debrusk for that package.

you only retain his rfa rights if you give him his 10 mil qualifying offer, which we can't . if hes not qualified he becomes ufa
