Olofsson is too old for SJ's time line and Buffalo would rather keep him and his 40 goals pace for a playoff run

I was listening to a podcast today and they made it seem as if San Jose is still trying to compete, which I thought someone that has Olofsson's goal scoring prowess, would mean they would want someone to contribute now. I would like to keep Olofsson for at least this season because he has provided the depth scoring we need, but I felt as if he made more sense than someone such as Middelstadt.

Meier trade is a bit light but not far off. I'd say the 1st round pick, protected, should also be "protected" the other way in that if Buffalo makes the playoffs, the Vegas 2nd becomes Buffalo's 2024 unprotected or top 2 protected. The prospect coming back to SJ isnt top tier and as one commenter noted Oloffson doesn't fit with the rebuild timing.

They're 16 points back of a wild card, they can try to be competitive but they're basically already eliminated from the playoffs. Mittlestadt who's younger, was a center, a recent 1st would make less sense? I think they would bank on turning him around.

Oh I completely agree - I think they should blow it up. I was going at it from a different angle. At this point I just want someone to trade for Meier so we can all move on.

Why would we trade and give an extra cap space to a team in our conference in Pittsburgh?

I understand what you're saying, but it seems like most are underwhelmed with Bryson and trading him to Pittsburgh doesn't necessarily make him that much better. He is already playing in a system that is friendly to his skillset and not exactly thriving. I don't think their team is better than ours and I think adding a defensive-defenseman like Dumoulin makes us better where as a Bryson move to Pittsburgh keeps them about the same.

I could certainly be wrong, and it is tough to trade with someone you are directly competing with, but I just think we have a flat-out better team so I don't fully see it as being the difference between the teams over the stretch run. I do see your point, though.
