Description
I usually don’t like making future ACGM’s since they’re kinda silly to make with so much uncertainty in the now but, I wanted to profess my admiration (and hope) for Leo Carlsson.

I expect the wings to sell maybe 2-3 pending UFA’s at the deadline. Larkin gets extended and Bertuzzi re-signs on a one year deal.

Detroit finishes with the 7th best lottery odds and wins the 2nd pick a la 2022 NJD fortune.

Leo Carlsson will be the #2 pick in this draft despite what happens with any other prospects’ status. Carlsson in my opinion is an Evgeni Malkin clone and a not-so-bad consolation prize to Bedard.

I expect Kasper and Edvinsson to make the roster out of camp and in this ACGM, so does Leo. I love the idea of having Kasper & Carlsson center the 2nd & 3rd lines flanked by experienced wingers.

Kubalik, Maatta & Sundqvist are traded at the deadline. For what; I don’t know. So for this I am burying Kubalik’s contract rather than come up with a trade for him.

Also, with the uncertainty surrounding Vrana; I left him off completely. I am also strongly against a buyout like some seem to suggest in the papers. I think buying out a player with a year left on their deal is extremely dumb.

Depending on how the season goes, Bertuzzi, Perron, Chiarot, Vrana and even Hronek could be in trade conversations which would free up upwards of $40m to re-sign Seider, Raymond & Berggren - and even potentially land a big fish in free agency the following offseason.

I like it but I would probably do things a little differently. I also like the idea of drafting Carlsson, but I probably let him play a year in Grand Rapids unless he absolutely kills it in training camp and preseason. That way we could get Zadina into the line up, I feel like he deserves another chance.
I would probably line it up something like this for the forwards
Bertuzzi - Larkin - Raymond
Berggren - Rasmussen - Perron
Fabbri - Kasper - Copp
Soderblom - Veleno - Zadina

Obviously this is all dependent on not signing any free agents which Yzerman might have blew his load on last off season.

I think Wallinder is going to kick the door in and make the team next season, that's my bold prediction

I know how badly everyone wants that Bert, Larkin & Raymond line to work again but, I think the Bert & Larkin combo ship has sailed.

That is quite the bold statement, especially since he’s not even signed yet but, that would be nice to see.

Edvinsson AND Wallinder both making the team seems kind of improbable especially if we re-sign Maatta or Walman, though.

That's why it's my bold prediction, haha

In all honesty, it's improbable, but I just love his game and am super excited about him

I think the left side next year will be Chariott (boo!), Wallman and one of Wallinder/Edvinsson. With the right side of Seider/Hronek and some UFA to be name later. Add in someone like Hagg or Oesterle as 7th D and I wouldn't be unhappy with that setup on D.

Every time I watch him play all I think of is Mikhail Sergachev. He is going to be a good one.

Personally, I’d rather trade Walman & Maatta as opposed to extending either one and bet the house on Edvinsson & Wallinder. The Chiarot signing really threw a monkey wrench in our left side. In a perfect world, Chiarot could be moved and Walman brought back to go another round with Seider and have Wallinder with Hronek and Edvinsson paired with a veteran RHD like Shattenkirk.

I honestly don’t really have a problem with Chiarot directly. I think the term is what’s hard to swallow. We signed him to essentially a 4th/5th defenseman salary and expected him to be a top pair guy. I am hopeful with an increase in the salary cap in the next couple years, his contract won’t become much of a hinderance if at all.

I think he’ll have a better year next season with tempered/realistic expectations.

He's just not good. smile Honestly the worst move Yzerman has made. All stats say he's not good, hasn't been good, and probably won't ever be good.

Eh, I think that’s a little harsh. He’s certainly not an exceptional player by any means but, he’s a decent player. I would like him to throw his body around a little more but, I think there was a ton of pressure on him this year and unfavorable matchups all season long.

There’s one thing a current NHL GM said once that was pretty profound; one of the most difficult things to identify with defenseman is differentiating between a bad defenseman and a bad team/defense.

Chiarot has clearly been a guy who has been viewed and respected as a solid defenseman and I think this year has been more of a case of a bad team/defense than a bad defenseman.

People were very harsh on Seider early on this year and some said he regressed but, I actually thought he was playing very well despite the drop in his numbers. Situations & matchups matter quite a bit.

I can't see Kasper making the team out of camp next year as the 2C. He likely spends some time in the AHL in my opinion. I know Raymond made the jump immediately but center is far more difficult than the wing. Copp probably stays at 2C for now and Detroit signs a Veteran to play 3/4C position until Kasper is ready. I really hope Edvinsson and Wallinder both make the team but it is far more likely that Wallinder plays a year in the AHL first.

I don't see the 23/24 Red Wings being much better then they are this year unless Yzerman makes an impact move or two. He did say it would take time when he was hired so I am thinking they let the rebuild progress and focus on making a push for 24/25.

Seider was playing with Chariot at the time. Just saying. smile
