Description

Since Rutherford and Allvin took to the helm, the Canucks have:
- Failed to clear cap space
- Failed to trade JT Miller
- Failed to acquire draft picks
- Signed a 29 year old winger until he’s 37
- Lowballed their captain who’s on pace for 50 to 60 goals
- Made the shortsighted Ilya Mikheyev signing
- Let go of their defensive systems coach for Mike Yeo and Trent Cull
- Owner accused of child abuse
- Human rights complaint filed against the organization
- A worse record than last year
- Wanting to sit Brock Boeser on Hockey Fights Cancer Night
- Taking away Jeff Paterson’s media credentials
- Covered up the misdiagnosis of Tanner Pearson and ruined his career
- Failed to retire Roberto Luongo’s number after his HOF induction
- GM cancelling season holders night the day before
- Ownership not letting management pull the trigger on a Bruce Boudreau firing without him knowing if he’s coached his last game

The real problem here is management. Rutherford is an absolute dinosaur tool looking for a Benning 2.0 retool. Ownership is corrupt, embarrassing, and too busy meddling in deals such as the Myers, Eriksson, and OEL deals.

This team is the worst of the worst. And it’s time to change the losing culture and commit to a full rebranding of everything.

I never understood all the love for Rutherford when he was hired. And as you suggest had authority in ALL personal decisions.
Kinda reminds of the disastrous situation when the Leafs anointed Brian "The Brain" Burke, who had full authority. Yeah he talked really good on TV, but didn't do any effort into his job as President or GM of the club.
The trouble (in any business), when poor hirings are made, the people who hired them don't want to fire them either. It makes the the "hiring party" seem incompetent.

I'll disagree with on Kuzmenko. He should be traded for the best return. No reason to think he would return to the Canucks next season.

The problem with trading Kuzmenko is that he is producing at the same level as Panarin and Kaprizov did in his first season. If the Canucks are truly going to retool for next season, then why not keep the guy who is just entering his prime and could project to be the next ***** stud. Plus trading him would piss off Petey and probably make him leave.

IMO, the Canucks should get a new GM before they trade anyone. I know time is short, but Rutherford has lost it, and the way he handled the Miller non-trade and then signing, on top of Horvat now should be all the proof ownership needs to go in a new direction. Let a new GM come in, get a new coach and evaluate the options first. The team has a lot of very good, young players, so to just blow it up makes no sense to me, from the outside looking in anyway.

Oh, I understood completely the want/need to keep Kuzmenko. But as you suggested, the Canucks are kinda of a disaster now and certainly in the near future. Kuzmenko has ZERO reasons to stay with the Canucks and good reasons to go to about 10 others teams that might want services, have better futures ...and have more cap.
Pettersson, unless he really wants the security of a long term contract, he just might want go the UFA route himself in a couple of years.

I mean sort of how the Rangers did with their rebuild. As much as I hated Gorton, he turned Nash into Miller, Lindgren, and Strome. He built around Kreider, Zibanejad, Fox, Panarin and Shesterkin. And Drury filled in the cracks with Goodrow, Trocheck, and Vesey.

I lean toward trading Kuzmenko if they can get a great return for him, but I'm also in the camp that wants to build around Petey and Hughes long term, so if extending Kuz makes it more likely that Petey wants to stay then I'm all for it. I imagine Petey will want to know there's some kind of plan in place to build a winner while he's still in his prime.

Literally everyone else should be available, and Horvat/Schenn should definitely be traded on or before the deadline.

Yeah, sort of, but I don't think the Canucks need to tear it all the way down like the Rangers did. IMO, getting rid of Miller is the key, plus signing Horvat and Kuz. It may be painful to get another team to take Miller's contract, but you remove the cancer in your room. IMO anyway. Once you get out from under his contract, they can address the D issues.
