Take out Kaut and Ranta and swap the first to the '24 and you'd be on reasonable value if the Avs could re-sign Horvat. They can't so it's a moot point, but that would be fair value. As a rental Horvat shouldn't fetch anywhere near this.

They aren't getting Horvat for a late first and two AHL players. Newhook is really the only asset the Avs have to acquire big name players. Newhook has been underwhelming no? I mean he is getting outproduced by Oliver Ekman Larsson

Right now that 1st is a lottery pick. And newhook is 21 years old being rushed into a 2C role because he's cheap. Can't see Colorado giving up on him already if they tryst him enough to try him at 2C. Horvat is a 50 point player that turned down an 8 mil payday. Now he's having a career year so he's gonna want even more. I'd stay far away from horvat unless you can get him for a late first and a couple average prospects. Calling them ahl players is a little ridiculous when they're only 22 and 23 years old with plenty of time to earn a spot I the league

Martin Kaut cleared waivers. The Canucks could have had him for free... Ranta would likely never be more than a bottom 6 player. Even with all the injuries, the Avs pick isn't going to be a lottery pick...

That is worse than what Andrew Copp got who is a career 30 point center. Calling Horvat just an average 50 point center after his current season seems pretty ignorant. Obviously nobody is expecting him to consistenly score at a 60 goal pace, however teams will not be paying the price for a 50 point center, they will be paying the price for Horvat's current play. Horvat is the best rental the market has seen in a very long time

If he were re-signable then he'd be worth more, i.e. one of Newhook, Olausson, Behrens plus a 24 1st. As a rental he simply isn't worth it to the Avs imo however you cut it.

I couldn't agree more with you Juiceman. That Andrew Copp trade was insane for a rental. LAK made a trade for Kevin Fiala (without a contract in place) that brought in 19th overall pick (Liam Ohgren) and top right shot prospect Brock Faber... Those are the kind of deals VAN should be looking to make. I don't think COL has the pieces/won't be willing to give up what VAN will want.

FYI Kevin Fiala boasts a .69 ppg, while Bo Horvat's career ppg is sitting at .67

Current gm's should base player values on past terrible trades. I'm sure some dumb gm will pay a kings ransom for bo horvat and sign him to a ridiculous extension then immediately regret it after he reverts back to his career averages. All I'm saying is he's not worth it and smart gm's like Sakic will see that.
