Why is Boston doing this

They get smith in the cap dump trade, they then use him to get Vladdy and then flip him for a pick.

To get cap space

If that was the case, Tampa would have done that already, than trade for a player with 3m+ of cap space

I can see Arizona taking on a short contract like Khudobin's in return for a significant extra benefit, but I can't imagine them taking on Faksa's contract or retaining for the last two years on Chychrun, for which he gets paid $12.4 million.

My guess is that Dallas would seriously considere that but would also try to change one of the 1st round pick for another prospect. Probably Harley.

No Boston is not trading away a 1st for those two

So boston gets cap space and then have no assets to trade for additional players because they gave their first away. Not the smartest idea for them. Great for Arizona but horrible for Boston

I don't see Dallas doing that, don't get me wrong I would love Chychrun, just not at this price. They already have a strong pipeline of defenseman in the system (Harley, Bichsel, Grushnikov, Kyrou) and guys that have made the jump (Miro, Lundkvist) so they are giving up a lot even with the cap dumps for a guy that they will have to sign to a massive contract in the near future, when they will have to give contracts to Otter, Johnston, Dellandrea, and probably Lundkvist. Obviously chychrun is better than all the guys I listed other than Miro, but to give all that up and have to re-sign him is a tall order that I don't think is necessary if all the prospects pan out like the scouts hope they do. In an ideal world, ARI would take Suter instead of Faksa but that won't happen because of his NMC.
