Description
Leafs go all in for Meier. If Leafs go super cheap next year on forwards, they can afford an extension. With Sandin, Liligren, Gio, and soon to be Timmins on cheap deals, they can throw more money at forward. They can flush out the forwards with Knies, Holmberg, Robertson, and Anderson which is fine for bottom six.

For this year, we can move Anderson and Robertson to the minors and call up for playoffs.
Having Benn, Timmins, and Megna on stand by for D makes sure we have good depth. Same with Mete if he is not claimed.

They can't reasonably extend Meier next year. They would lose Bunting and Kampf. They have a lot of good, cheap, young depth pieces, as you listed, but I don't see this being a fit.

The only way Leafs get Meier in my mind, is if they use him as a rental and then re-sell him at the draft.

Yes, would lose on of them. I think they could extend Bunting at a low number over 8 years and load with signing bonuses.
I feel that if the cap is going to go up, trying to get Meier, Matthews, Marner, Nylander on long term deals now will be hard for next year and year after, but will pay off as cap rises.

You just can't make it work. Matthews, Nylander, Sandin and Liljegren all get contracts the same year. And Marner the year after. Add Meier to the mix and there is no chance of keeping one of Meier, Matthews and Nylander.

Depends. Dubas clearly likes to be top heavy so if we keep getting cheap production from picks/finds it is possible.
