Where are the Blues finding this extra 6M in cap? And nobody is trading anything for Formenton, you have to know that.

You lost a bad contract in Scandella. I doubt you’ll resign Tarasenko either.

Scandella is on LTIR, probably for the whole season, if not permanently. Taking Scandella back does exactly nothing for their cap status this season. And any way you slice it, that's still not enough space to fit Cat this season. It's simply not feasible, even if they agree to wipe out a bunch of young talent capital, which doesn't seem likely at this time.

Edit: Okay, I flaked that this was an offseason AGM. Just woke up, my bad. Still, it would seem highly unlikely they could afford what he'll be asking for to sign.

I'd like Debrincat on the Blues. I would even be willing to pay a lot to have Debrincat on the Blues if he would sign an extension. Maybe even this much, though I have to think that two of our best three prospects + a 1st is a little steep compared to what he went for in the summer (Top 10 pick, but only that) when he was coming off a 40 goal season and with cost certainty and not what looks to be more like a 30 goal season as a Matthew Tkachuk-esque RFA (who, as we've seen, have a lot of power). Even with dumping Scandella, that's a lot.

But yeah, the Blues would have to move money around. Probably more than just Scandella. They might do that naturally, if they trade O'Reilly and Tarasenko at the deadline (moves that would get them more picks that might make giving up these assets more palatable). It would be cool to see them make such a big swing. It's the kind of move I would like to see them make if I had faith that they would make other improvements to the roster. I'm never going to be against an infusion of elite (or close enough to it) talent, but this reads like a "we're going to be competitive now and going forward" move and the Blues probably need to do more than just add another top forward, especially if they're losing O'Reilly and Tarasenko in order to make good on that goal.
