Description
Based on this rumour https://dailyhive.com/toronto/leafs-interested-canucks-tyler-myers.

Don't know if this works for either team, but money would need to come back to Van for the Leafs to do this deal.

Rich comments coming from Leafs fans. At least, Our team has made it past the first round in the last 4 years.

I didn’t make up the story. I posted the source. I am theorizing about the potential trade given neither has cap space. Dubas has built a good team, but he has made some very bad moves. This trade wouldn’t necessarily be his worst

That source is as reliable as the Drunk Guy at The Bar who says he knows a guy close to the team, It goes against every single principle Dubas has set, he goes after analytically strong D-men not the big guy old heads think are great cause their tall. (Not blaming you just saying this whole idea is very flawed) Also Myers would be 50% Retained & have something like a 5th included with him

That's such an awful trade for the Leafs. I can't see Dubie doing that. I can see him being interested in trading for Myers. But he's not trading Brodie.

Not sure what's wrong with the trade. How is Brodie better than Myers?

Myers is a legit asset at 50% retained, he could fetch a 2nd or a 3rd easily

I don’t see that unless it’s a GM that just really likes Size & Bad Analytical Defenders, In this kind of Market & how his stars haven’t held up plus his age I doubt someone will pay a pretty penny for Myers

Okay, then how do you explain defenders like Chiarot, Leddy, Gudbranson, and Rutta all commanding pretty pennies on the UFA market, and no, it's NOT all about acquisition cost or lack their of

It is vert simple. Chiarot the year before had good numbers & made the Stanley Cup Final as a Top 4 D-Man hence why he got a nice return & sold contract (Stevie Y’s
most scrutinized deal) , (Also Zito is just dumb for trading such a package for a pointless player), Rutta is a 2 time Cup Champion so people will pay, Gudbranson had a good statistical season in Calgary & Was overpaid. Leddy looked good in St.Louis & Fit what they wanted after acquiring him for basically pennies.

How does Myers Compare? He has had 3 terrible statistical seasons, He is 32 years of age, Big,Slow, Shouldn’t be in a Top 4 Role (Is cause of his height which is the biggest thing he has going for him), Can’t move the puck particularly well, Gives the puck away more then he steals it.

Everything Points to Myers being a Cap-Dump that needs to be 50% retained to garner even the slightest bit of Value

The 2021 shortened season was a bad season for Myers , yes, but the 21-22 season was a good season by Myers standards, so you're only half right. Nick Leddy simply "looking good" doesn't sound like a strong enough statement to warrant another big payday for him. Myers isn't slow either, and Jarmo should have recognized that Gudbranson was putting up good metrics while in SHELTERED minutes, so no, your logic doesn't quite fit the peg.

Also, the Blues did not acquire Leddy for pennies on the dollar. Leddy was a replacement level defender in detroit and st. louis paid a 2nd + to acquire him as a rental

Leddy had a good track record, Myers doesn’t, Also Myers having a good season “From His Standards” Is not a good thing. Right Now he is not having a good season & even at 50% imo is barely an asset i’d pay anything for. He is not Top Pair or Top 4 he is imo bottom pair. He is not elite by any stretch & isn’t worth acquiring especially for the Leafs. Maybe some GM who loves big men will come thinking he’s a good D-man but at 32 yrs of age i seriously doubt it

No, Myers was legitimately good last season, there was nothing relative about it. Myers has been okay this year, not a liability, but he hasn't been poor. Leddy's good track record you are referring to is from long ago, he's been on the decline for years. Your logic is still heavily flawed.

See Brodie is actually good at defense dare i say an elite defensive d-man & it’s simple as that, He is a Top Shutdown D-man whilst Myers is a 3rd Pair pile of garbage making 1 million more & is older. Brodie never waives for Van & Dubas won’t trade for Myers unless an asset is attached with him, Rather spend on a guy like Jensen or Gavrikov over Tyler Myers, pretty sure the rest of the league is thinking the same thing

Brodie is not an elite shutdown defenseman, and Myers wouldn't be garbage if he was even 3rd pair caliber, so you're logic is already out the window troller.

“Troller”, Brodie IS AN ELITE SHUTDOWN D-Man anyone with a brain or ability to research statistics knows that, Plus he has a hell of a-lot more value then a 32 yr old 6 million dollar pylon

Myers isn't a pylon, you never listen, you can't even see properly for that matter. If Brodie is such a good shutdown defenseman, how come the Leafs were near the bottom of the league in expected goals against last year? Couldn't all have been on goaltending.
