Hubby is a really great player but NYR can't have a top 6 of 3 players making 8 + M being 30 years old.

Ottawa should decline that deal. Weegar turns 29 in January and next season begins an EIGHT YEAR deal at $6.25M with a full NTC until he's 34.
We're better off just moving Zaitsev, extending Zub, and giving Hamonic a 1 or 2 year deal if we feel JBD or Thomson aren't ready next season - but I think they will be.

Why would the Flames "have" to trade these players or any unsigned UFAs. Make a Cup run with them. Don't understand the logic, Rangers couldn't afford to resign Hubie either, so why do they want a UFA.? And certainly the Sens who aren't Cup contenders aren't trading for UFA. Even if the Flames didn't make the trade....Tkachuk only had one more season as a Flame, and he would be a UFA in 2023.
The trade value for both teams will be based on the value of the extensions

No chance the Rangers would have paid that much in a trade.

yeah 8 years is a bit long for Weegar but this ACGM is a "what if"

However, if 8 years is what it took for Calgary, would the Sens have been able to sign 6 years instead? If not, it's just too long

If there was an universe we could have had Weegar for 6 years at 6.25 AAV, I would do the deal in OP

Kakko and 2 late firsts is too much for a top-5 winger?

What would you think if someone proposed that for Panarin?

You're right, I did miss that part of it, but I think I'd be inclined to pass. It would really depend on where Ottawa was sitting at the trade deadline. If they looked like an absolute contender, maybe I'd be willing to give up all those pieces for getting Weegar to join us on a cup run, but being patient for another year might be the smarter play for the franchise and our contending window.

sort of even worse. Besides we have Kreider and Panarin on the top 6, so does Kreider play top 9 ? :/

So your logic is, all teams should be trading upcoming UFAs. and never accept a trade for an upcoming UFA. By that logic every year there are about 90 UFAs, they should all be traded, but of course no other team will wanted upcoming UFAs, so they are impossible to trade.
