Description
A conservative analysis of what Jason Botterill should do here in Buffalo, IMO, this offseason. Although his judgement is a million times more trustworthy than mine and if he wants to trade Evander Kane so be it...
This roster does assume that Zemgus Girgensons is picked by Las Vegas in the expansion draft, although I'll be praying they take Moulson or Bogosian (due to cap hit and lack of doing literally anything). I will add that instead of Justin Falk, I would love for the sabres to sign Chris Lee, a veteran defenseman, who served as Viktor Antipin's D partner in the KHL, and put up fantastic numbers, especially for a 36 year old. Recently it's been rumored that he is looking to join the NHL but I'll consider it unlikely the Sabres sign Lee. Of course I left the AHL contracts and signings mostly alone because I am lazy.

It's a good start specially keeping Kane. I would look to do low risk/high reward free agent deals like Sam Gagner, Yannick Weber PA Parenteau and so on. And look to trade for a top four d-man.

With a decent number of teams having Expansion protection issues...
J-Botts should be able to trade for at least 1 top4 defenseman
2 would be ideal
And he can also look to add a forward as well
There's plenty of teams who will have issues up front

I know it doesn't give him a lot of time
But expansion really gives Botterill a good opportunity to reshape this roster rather quickly
And with Guhle & Antipin coming... 1 or 2 additions on defense can make it a really solid unit

We aren't as far away as many think

I agree that we aren't too far away. What top four defensemen would you target?

As for the proposal itself, why would Girgs be left exposed? Who do you have protected?
