Ignoring the trade value but why would the Leafs exchange what will be 3 players for 2?

Trading Lundkvist for Sandin is an unnecessary lateral move. And more expensive.

Rangers should only be focused on C Prospects for Lundkvist. Otherwise, just hold onto him.

The reasoning for me would be that Kratsov and Lundkvist could slot into their lineup this year and fit better with leafs having an abundance of LHD and the Rangers having more RHD, i was assuming Kratsov and Lundkvist would have a bit more value than Sandin and Hirvonen

Although trading Sandin for an RD might make sense now, it would look stupid in 2-3 years.

I don’t hate it, but I think the leafs are giving up a bit much. If it was a 2nd I’d say sure.

A big box to fill for NYR is assuming a sign and trade happens on Sandin

I'm thinking Kravstov could compete for spot but there are already a few guys he would compete with. I do wonder though if Lundkvist would be given the chance that he's looking for by the Leafs. I wouldn't be surprised if they did not want to play him on the regular. If he doesn't mind being in the AHL for another year though or the 7th D then I guess it could work, he's bound to get an opportunity to crack the Leafs right side but it might not be enough of a difference between his current situation, he'll have to compete with Topi, and he won't get a chance to be a PP QB with Reilly around.

The Leafs are going to need LDs as well in a couple of years more than RDs.
