Toronto will finish 4th in the Atlantic. The Maple Leafs were tough to predict. I know a lot of people are saying the top three is obvious, but in my opinion its not. With Boston attempting to make one last push, and Ottawa, Detroit, and Buffalo getting better, Toronto if anything got worse. But with the starpower they have in Matthews, Marner, and Tavares, I still have them in a playoff spot. However, this is their last year to win a first round series. If they fail to do so, they should rebuild and fire Dubas. The goaltending got worse, Murray and Samsonov have been inconsistent the past few seasons. The defense is still iffy, I think the Leafs trade away Holl before the season starts, the bottom six is slightly weaker than last year. Forward wise, I think Kerfoot will be gone by the start of the season, and I think Jarnkrok is a worse addition over Mikhayev. Overall, lots of starpower, but this Toronto team will be slightly worse.
For young talent, Toronto should play Robertson for the full season. If he gets injured long-term again, the Leafs are doomed.
How is Holl getting 2 4th round picks? Minny just dumped Kulikov to the Ducks for future considerations. Kulikov makes 2.25 mil. Holl makes 2 mil. Bjorkstrand was traded to Seattle for a 3rd and a 4th. Kerfoot might get a 3rd but it won't be from Vancouver. Jets are a better fit.
The defence hasnt been iffy since lou left and jarnkrok is much better than mikheyev.
The only potential loss is goaltending and if murray is healthy it wont be much worse, considering the leafs were a 110+ point team with almost 3 months of straight .800 goaltending.
Not sure how Boston is better than TO.
McAvoy and Marchand out until December, Grzelcyk November and Bergeron/Reilly may miss the start of the season. That's a lot for a team to overcome
Fla/TB also lost players without top end replacements.
Tough division this year. To me, Tampa and Toronto fight for 1-2 spots. Florida has a chance to crack it but I think they end up at 3. Boston holds a slight edge over Ottawa for 4-5 spots (depends on Boston start with injuries). Buffalo and Detroit could surprise everyone and possibly get into a 5 spot, but most likely fight for 6-7. MTL brings up the rear and continues acquiring young talent.

I think the Atlantic will come down to what teams start hot as there will be way less "easy" games and goaltending will ultimately determine how this shakes out.
TB has played a ton of hockey over the last three season and will also start without some key guys but have the best goalie in the division (top 3 in the game) I think they are all interchangeable minus the Habs and feel the Leafs could fall to 4th, I just don't agree with the OP in the sense that i believe that the difference in 3-7 got smaller rather than the gap between 1-3. the top four teams are all worse off to start the season on paper and team 5-7 closed the gap just not sure how much and how quickly

Jarnkrok isn't better than Mikheyev. You and your ludicrous takes
Lol, what ever helps you sleep better aboutthat Mikheyev deal, eh?
Mikheyev's contract was an overpay, but there shouldn't be any doubt that Mikheyev is better. While I dislike the AAV, what Mikeheyev brings to the Canucks is very valuable (Speed, PK, defense, depth scoring)

Ha, I'm not losing any sleep over it. At worst, it's a slight overpay
Quoting: Juiceman

Mikheyev's contract is at worst just a slight overpay
Would rather have him at a number that starts with 3
The lower the number the better obviously, but that's the reality of a negotiating context, the interests of opposite sides work inversely to one another, and the trick is to find common ground to work toward common goals. Also, Canucks don't have a weak blueline, it's mediocre at worst

No. At worst, our blue line is bad. At best, its mediocre. Demko is a stud, arguably top 5 goaltender and he is basically holding that defense together

Our blueline is closer to mediocre than it is bad. Demko does cover up some of the defensive deficiencies, but he's not holding it together all by himself
