I think that’s just a little bit too much from the leafs. Leaf fans are probably going to say it’s way too much but if you sub out the third with a second I think it’s fair.

My logic is Miller = Niemela and a first.

Sandin is easily available for a second from an offer sheet. Vancouver can say “hey, we’ll give you woo with a second for Sandin or we can just offer sheet him for a second.” Which I imagine Dubas accepts. I think the LA trade is probably fair but I don’t know much about Durzi

Fair enough, I think a 2nd would be understandable especially to convince Dubas in keeping things civil without an offer sheet. That deal works for me

As for Durzi, he’s a fantastic player. He’s a young RHD that played extremely well for limited time in LA. He’s 3rd on the depth chart behind Doughty and Roy so he’s somewhat under-utilized, especially with Walker being injured right now too. And LA is in need of LHD. The deal seems to me like it would work really well in terms of team needs

I would imagine the Leaf's would just try and move Sandin to LA for Durzi as that will fill the need for us much more than the pick from Vancouver.

Exactly, if they can’t afford Sandins contract they can’t afford Durzis either.

The Kings can afford Sandin if they trade Durzi. They have $4M in cap space reserved to lock up both Anderson and Durzi, which should be plenty. Sandin shouldn't get more than $1.5-2M on an extension.

We can afford Sandin, he just wants to play the left side and is being blocked by MO/Muzzin/Gio. The leafs have rolled a 20 man roster the last three years and would make the required space for Sandin.

I don't know why everyone keeps giving Durzi a $3M contract. He doesn't even have a full NHL season under his belt. He should get no more than $1.25-1.5M.

In a world where they acquire Miller they likely can’t afford Sandin

Durzi for Sandin is a roll of the dice that would be uncharacteristic of a front office as conservative as Los Angeles'. Durzi has shown as much offense in one season of 64 games as Sandin has in his career of 88 games, and Durzi's potential offensive upside looks higher than Sandin's; as Al Arbour famously said, we can teach an offensive player to play defense, but teaching a defensive player offense is a lot harder, and Los Angeles has a lot of experience and success at teaching second- and third-pairing blueliners the defensive side of their position (e.g., Mikey Anderson and Matt Roy).
