No way Avs do that. The current trade market seems to really punish teams wanting to clear cap - just look at the Bjorkstrand trade. The Leafs need to make a move and the Avs are fine as is. LOC will provide great value for the cost over the next 3 years while Kerfoot probably wont even provide more value than a current UFA they can sign for free for 1 year for under 3.5M (Stastny, Rodrigues, Milano, etc)

Its in ARZ's best interest to be bad this year and tank for a high pick. Kerfoot only has 1 year left and is too old to fit the timeline of their rebuild so in that sense its a bad fit, but in other ways its a good fit since he would help them reach the cap floor with a low salary like you said. I guess it depends on if they value money or picks more

There are plenty of teams that need to clear cap before the season starts - ARZ will probably take a cap dump along with a pick from the highest bidder so they can reach the cap floor. The difference in Kerfoot's cap hit and salary probably makes him more appealing to them so maybe they take him for free or for a reduced cost (whether that is positive value or negative value im not sure tbh)
