Description
Hextall seems to be doubling down on Kapanen reaching his first round pick potential. If he doesn't get going with Malkin on the second line, Sullivan will drop him down to the third line.

I believe this is pretty much the opening night roster. To me, it looks like Hextall is trying to create lots of competition at training camp and the losers get sent down and have to clear waivers. Friedman and Joseph could mostly likely be the ones that are claimed.

I don't really see anymore impactful trades to be made. Trading Pettersson now would create a weakness on the left side of the defense core. Also don't see the need to trade either Zucker or McGinn as well. I know it's a big if, but a healthy Zucker benefits this team.

P.S. - Stop with the Miller and Kane trades with Kapanen and/or Pettersson as the new center piece. You guys crack me up LOL. It's not happening.

Really like the idea of that 3rd line, haven’t seen anyone do it before because I think that 4th line could be fine especially if Poehling pans out well in this system. Good work.

I would be surprised if they bump up Blueger and move Carter to wing - but I actually do think it looks better this way. Man it would be nice if they were able to figure out that Larsson signing.

POJ has to make the roster though - they can't risk him going through waivers.

Are you of the belief that Ty Smith will start in the AHL? That's one of the hot debates amongst the fan base right now.

I am guessing there is a good chance Carter starts out as 3C but by the end of the season, I think it is best to relegate him to 3 RW. A lot depends on how Poehling does.

Honestly I think he has to - unless you can fit both POJ and Smith on the NHL roster. If there's only room for 1 I think it has to be POJ simply for the fact that Smith doesn't have to clear waivers. The Pens prospect pool is awful, we can't just let our best D prospect go for nothing - and there is zero chance nobody claims him. Imagine if POJ gets claimed and then Smith turns out to be a bust - they'll look like idiots.

I’m at the point where I feel like POJ is more expendable to move for a forward. But who knows. I don’t think we trade Marino for Smith just for Smith to not make the team.

You could probably get a decent forward for POJ and a pick. The issue is they have no cap space though to pay said forward. At this point if you're trading for another roster player - you have to dump salary. POJ by himself won't help. Marino was a cap dump so I definitely could see them stashing Smith in the AHL for a year.

I love when people just flat out say someone sucks when it's just objectively not true

He’s definitely not as good as some fans make him out to be. He’s been so slow with his development just don’t even see the worth anymore now that we have Smith and Pickering

Based on what? All we can go by is his numbers in his brief number of games which are very good.

How can you say he's been slow in his development or isn't worth it anymore? He's our 2nd best prospect and has played well. Smith was one of the worst defenders in the league last year, and Pickering was just drafted. Not to mention Dumoulin looks to be over the hill.

I think overall, Smith is better than POJ and will be throughout his entire career. Let’s remember he played for the Devils. A not so very good team.

Yeah but that's not really what the discussion is. It was about POJ and if he sucks - as the guy said. And then you saying he's not worth keeping because of one other fringe starting defenseman and this year's draft pick.

Plus Smith regressed a lot while playing for the same bad team - so the concern there is fair.

Ok…. How about will never pan out, first round bust, will never establish himself as a regular NHLer, career minor leaguer at best….. time to move on and not waste a NHL roster spot

My fault lol - this is an old thread and I thought we were talking about Kapanen haha.

But you're still wrong about POJ and that's just a ridiculous thing to say
