Description
Okay, what is the value of Tkachuk for one year? Because that's what's being traded to ANY team. There is no guarantee he'd stay here or anywhere... even if it's more likely he'd stay in St.louis I don't think that should be some factor that drives the cost up more for St.louis than other teams. There is a chance he'd still want to walk to free agency and just seek a bigger bag than we'd want to pay. Everyone's trades seems to be assuming that he'd sign long term but that may not be the case. Also what should st.louis realistically want to give him contract wise or any team for that matter? Because 10+ million seems ridiculous even though he's coming off a great season.

presumably the point of trading tkachuk to st louis (or anywhere, but mostly st louis) would be so that he'd resign long term. so that means the package starts with the 2023 1st, one of kyrou/thomas, and one of bolduc/neighbours at least

That's my point though. You're basing the return in a trade on an assumption he'd sign long term in St.louis which I don't think should play a significant role because... he just might not. If that's the ask, then St.louis is kind of getting reemed more than pretty much any other team would and should just play the waiting game, in which case Calgary likely gets a much lesser return. 1 year Tkachuk with no guarantee he extends for New York Islanders, Dallas etc. What's the return they get from them? Losing Kyrou, Perron and Vladi all off the right side just doesn't seem like something Armstrong should/would do.

They can always negotiate an extension before the trade and then increase the trade value. The Bruins did that with Lindholm this year. Anaheim got a first, 2 seconds and a prospect but they wanted futures. Do the Flames want that or straight up hockey trade or a mix??

Ha! In what realm of the multiverse is Matty worth that much more than a fully extended Thomas? Or a cost controlled Kyrou, for that matter?

You sure that's why Anaheim got that return? I thought that sort of thing was a no no? And how does that work if he gets to arbitration and is rewarded 1 year at x amount before being traded? Wouldn't he not be able sign an extension with any team until January in that case? Discussions only mean so much... just see our recent example of Johnny hockey.

That's what I'm saying... I think given the situation and similarities a much more rational example to look at would be the recent Debrincat and Fiala trades. Now I don't think they got quite as much as they probably could or should have and think Tkachuk has more value than them but HOW MUCH more exactly?

If the Ducks grant permission to negotiate then it’s fine.
