The pending UFA part is a positive thing, helps with more flexibility next year when he expires, or flip him at the TDL for asset(s)

I think it'd have to be the '23 first instead of the other two picks though at a bare minimum

Im sure they could sweeten the pot with Zary and a 3rd instead of petterson and 4th but I highly doubt the flames give up their 1st next year pending whose up for grabs.

Especially since he's coming off major hip surgery. I'd consider taking a gamble, but only if a similar amount were going the other way, starting with Hoffman.

That's fair but MTL doesn't take the risk here without the 1st imo.
