Description
Caps still have room to add a rental piece either before the season starts or at the deadline if Backstrom is out til playoffs.

Girard is rumored to be on the move in Colorado. He's locked up at 5M for a few more years, caps would be smart to pick him up and put him with Carlson.

It would absolutely blow to lose Protas, but if you're trading for a guy like Girard, you need to give up assets that can be used right away. Protas was drafted as a center, but looked really good on the right wing too. Big body, potential to be a left-handed Tom Wilson type player. As well, the Avs need another middle 6 center. Throwing in a pick as well to get close to equal value. The value might be a little off, but I think this is close.

How does the cap hit work when Bäckström returns. Isn't he suposed to come back mid way through the season. Thye'd be 5 mill(ish) over the cap wouldn't they? Also Don't the the avs take Eller back, They'd proably wouldnt want to take back any cap hit since there goal would be to free cap space to sign Kardi.

I don't think Backstrom is coming back til the playoffs if he comes back at all this season. The cap difference from Eller to Girard is 1.5M, so that opens it up a little bit more for them to potentially circle back to Kadri.

Bäckström coming back for the playoffs would work.

The extra 1.5 likley wouldnt be enough for the avs to get Kadri they only have 3.9 mill in cap space. Any Girard trade imo would have to free up 3.5-4mill to sign Kadri or be an overpayment for Girard. Hes signed to a such a team friendly deal , which i would think improve his value to more then this trade. Maybe swaping Eller with McMichael but that would't be worth it the caps.

I'd do McMichael and Alexyev (2018 first round pick, LHD) for Girard. Alexyev will probably be playing bottom pair when he comes back from injury in November/December and he could easily move up to a second pair role in a year or two. We could move Eller elsewhere if Lapierre is ready to jump to the NHL or let Protas take a shot at 3C since he was drafted as a center.

A win now team in COL doesn't care about picks or prospects. This is a classic sack of nothing for a top end player proposal.

WSH very likely doesn't have the assets it would take to get Girard from Colorado. You'd be better off looking for targets on teams that would actually have value in futures

I mean you clearly don’t know anything about Eller or Protas then if that’s your evaluation of the trade…
