Description

Hopefully, Grier got the job based on everyone actually being realistic that this team needs 2 more years to restock (see LA/Anaheim). In 2 years, Labanc comes off, Vlasic money is almost out, most of the Burns contract is shipped off this offseason (see below) , the Jones buyout money starts going down. At that point, you want to be in a position to start competing with the young players you've traded for and drafted over the prior few years, and you'll still have some decent vets to surround them with (Hertl, Couture).

I don't view this as a Chicago/Arizona style tank job, but it may have much the same effect.

I'd probably add one mid-tier free agent that can play center/wing so that you can bench a kid if need be.

Underwhelming return for Timo. I don’t think he gets moved either, he has exactly what Grier wants with speed, compete and grit. Heck even if he didn’t put up all those points he would still be what Grier wants

Foote projects as a 3rd liner, Holtz is top six. I would want a 1st with that yeah

LaBanc will be moved before Timo.

Timo likely gets Grier ROCK HARD based on how he wants the Sharks to play going forward.

I do agree they probably plan to suck for another couple years before trying to compete again though.

Going to be interesting to see how the next week pans out for the franchise

If Nieto was one of the best PKers in the league, you wouldn't move him for a 7th, you'd want more for him. His advanced stats don't back up what you're saying, he was hemorrhaging shots last season.

The last nail was Doug Jr shown the door. It's over, it's going to take more than "a couple" years.
