I disagree. 6 x 3 is a fair deal. My heart wants to sign Malkin for whatever he wants, but take emotions out of it and a 4 year deal just dosen't make sense. He hasn't been able to play a full season in a long time and is 36, longer term deals just don't make sense at that point

But he's still playing at an elite level, and you need an elite 2c to compete for a cup, so what do you do? Sign trochek, an infinitely worse playoff performer, to a bigger deal? Malkin can easily get 8 million 3 years on the open market, having him for 6 is a bargain, and again, when he produces at the level of as first line centre, by the time he regresses below what you'd expect of a 2C the Pens window will be over. Giving him the extra year to keep the cap down maximizes the window

Yes but his play has been regressing and he has been injured for the past few seasons, hasn't been able to play a full season for a while. 6 x 3 is perfectly fair. The original offer was 2 and they added another year. Last year we were a top 1-2 team in the metro while he was out. To me its just not worth going over 6 x 3.
