TML 22-23 Take IV

Créé par: Hockey_Hippy
Équipe: 2022-23 Maple Leafs de Toronto
Date de création initiale: 9 juill. 2022
Publié: 9 juill. 2022
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Youth starts getting served this year. The third pairing jobs are the Swedes to lose, not theirs to win. Robertson, Anderson, and Abruzzese play serious minutes up front to prepare them for full time duty once Kerfoot and Simmons move on. Khudobin buys Kallgrin and Holl one more year of development.

TOR
  1. Choix de 4e ronde en 2023 (NJD)
  2. Choix de 3e ronde en 2024 (NJD)
Détails additionnels:
Leafs pick up a pair of mid round picks one in 22, one in 24 and create playing time for Sandin.
NJD
  1. Muzzin, Jake
Détails additionnels:
The Devils could use someone to help ease the PK load on the left side and a veteran voice on the D corp, given they are one of the youngest teams in the league.

Muzzin is not as quick as he used to be but had a renaissance in the playoffs. He was one of their best defenders.

Muzzin likely returns to the Leafs at the end of his deal and is hired into the organization in an amateur scouting/instructional coaching capacity.

TOR
  1. Choix de 3e ronde en 2023 (SEA)
  2. Choix de 4e ronde en 2024 (SEA)
Détails additionnels:
Leafs get a pair of mid round picks and make room for Liljegrin.
SEA
  1. Holl, Justin
Détails additionnels:
Kraken are horribly left heavy on Defense. Holl is a solid PK guy who can take 2nd pairing assignments and is decent with the puck on his stick as well
3.
TOR
  1. Khudobin, Anton (1 650 000 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
Leafs get a veteran back-up coming off of hip surgery who three years before this one started 41, 30, 32 games respectively and had a SV % of over .900 but now sits in the AHL collecting dust and soaking cap space for Dallas.
DAL
  1. Hollowell, Mac
Détails additionnels:
Even paying half Khudobin's salary the Stars save on this deal given that they would be paying Khudobin over 2,200,000 to sit in the minors. For the money they save they get a righty defenseman whose upside is PP2/3rd pairing. For the Stars it is making something out of nothing.

Devils are fine defensively on the left side. We've got Graves and Sieg, the RD bottom pairing is the only slot that needs filling, which a $5.6m LHD does not fill well. Lyubushkin sure would though.

No thanks. Doubt Muzzin would be on board either.

Why wouldn't NJ just go sign Lyubuskin themselves, they save 2 draft picks, less cap hit, and younger.

Not a bad thought process on the moves and signings. The caveat to Muzzin to.waive his NTC is a nice sweetner that may actually happen. If not to NJ then another team in need of a steady LD. Sandin will sign for more than.1.4 but the above scenarios make room for that. You are not far off.

Another delusional Muzzin trade NTC Muzzin has no reason to waive to Jersey. Holl isn't worth that in the trade market and has agmurryt above suggested, the better Lybushkin is a better option.

I had virtualy the same deal in my last off-season mock and you said nothing then smile In fact no one did. They were all fine with it and there were plenty of comments. Based on that the anti-Muzzin to New Jersey crowd seems to be in the minority here. That said, there are other teams. That's about what he is worth today. It wouldn't be Cap Friendly if the comments had no nay sayers.

Because the Leafs will and he is a righty. Muzzin is a lefty and is a glue guy in the dressing room which is half the reason you are getting him. You are not getting him to anchor the left side of your D. He can still play, but he is not that. He is a steady vet who can teach the kids. And man, you have a lot of those in Jersey.

I expect nothing different from you palhal.

You are nothing if not consistent.

Thanks. I expect nothing different from some many fans who just will do anything for their team to get cap. Give you credit for being one of few who created a 23 man roster

Ok I think I see what you are saying. Toronto gets first dibs on who they want to sign, and other teams have to wait until Toronto finishes?? There are lots of "glue guys" New Jersey can bring in if that is their main purpose, and very few of them would carry Muzzin's combination of high cap hit, declining on ice skills, and increasing health risk.

And this is under the highly unlikely scenario that Muzzin even accepts this trade to N.J.

Not saying I saw the comment. But what's in for Muzzin, waiving his NTC.? Leaving his "hometown". Going to the non playoff team. Leaving a very good Leaf team,. Muzzin's NTC really kills any deal to a team with cap or poor teams.

Go grab one of those then in free agency. If not the Devils there are other teams that would make that deal.

Well, if you read the last sentence on the deal you will see the quid pro quo.
