Habs are indeed interested in acquiring Barrie, but not because he’s good. He’s useful to us because 1) he can eat up big minutes to replace Petry as the 1RD 2) he’ll improve the PP 3) he’s a net negative on the team analytically and will help us tank while making the team a bit less depressing to watch. We aren’t giving a 2nd for Barrie whatsoever considering the Oilers don’t have leverage and he isn’t good enough to theoretically warrant that return anyways. In my mind he should either have minimal value (late 3rd-4th rounder) or very slight negative value (Habs get paid a late 3rd/4th rounder to take him). While the Oilers really shouldn’t do this, Hoffman for Barrie would be more likely to go through than Barrie for a 2nd if you’re trading with MTL. Alternatively, he could probably just be a throw in piece in a larger Habs trade (i.e. Puljujarvi or Anderson centered-trade - fyi Anderson for Barrie 1-for-1 ain’t happening, there’s a lot of interest surrounding Anderson and we’ll prob get a first for him).
