I am not convinced Tampa can offer him the same money and term as Lightening will need to extend a number of their talented younger players......Palat may slip through the cracks and sign elsewhere as a UFA.

Tampa no tax advantage. Better team. Tampa has Vasi who is one of the best goalies in the NHL. Leafs may have to start Zamboni driver David Ayers next season. Yeah there's no way Palat is leaving Tampa for Toronto.

Tampa can easily offer him in the 4.85 range with very little other movement. If they need to pay him more, and want to, they can roll with 21 instead of 22 and do that as well. It was pretty clear once they moved McD that Palat was staying.

The Lightening can not afford him as they need to extend 3 younger players...........This is just part of a Cap System and the Leafs will sign him away from Tampa.

Yes they can. It's Toronto who can't afford him. You're already paying 4 forwards 40 mil. Smarten up.

The Leafs decision to have 4 top forwards will pay dividends as Matthews, Marner and Nylander are all just starting to enter their prime career years in the National Hockey League.

Plus if JBB signs Sergachev, Cirelli, Cernak and Hagel to contract extensions this summer, those cap hits won't take effect until 23-24. Tampa has more than enough cap space this summer.

Typical Leafs fan delusion. Studs and Duds doesn't work. Quality depth wins. Look at Colorado. Shiny Toy syndrome has failed Dubie. Well in the playoffs anyway.

Matthews is gone in 2 years as a UFA. Tavares has lost a step and shouldn't be playing C. Marner loves his dirty dangles and Matthews loves his sick snipes. Great for the regular season but doesn't win you playoff games. Nylander should be traded but never will be while Dubas is Leafs GM. Pokemon Leafs. Gotta keep em all!

Goaltending is a position where new goalies emerge every year.......Campbell is going to get a huge shock if he leaves Toronto and then realizes that playing goal on a weaker team is not alot of fun and hard on your goaltending stats.

That is accurate information.....but then you have major Cap problems going forward.

Tampa is ruthless at trading or not signing older players.........so feel they will also let Palat walk.

Hagel likely won't get extended this Summer, as he has next year and the year after at 1.5. I do expect the main 3 rfas to get extended thls Summer, and then Brisebois will see about Colton and Foote.

The last time I checked.....both Matthews and Marner were 25 years old or younger.........They have not hit their peak performance years yet.........so it might be early for you to say that the Shanahan plan is not going to work.

Tampa will let Killorn walk after this coming season and gain additional cap from the 1 million increase, plus a few other ljkely smaller incremental gains. There will be more than enough for Serg, Cirelli, and Cernak. Colton may be a little tricky, but still possible.

Check again. It's not early at all. Leafs depth will only get worse. All Dubie can do is keep dumpster diving for stale cookies and half eaten donuts. I hear Joe Thornton is available. "Hey buddy." Zero playoff round wins in 6 years. Same as Detroit.

Just curious why everyone has to comment about the Leafs goaltending when the Leafs have had two allstar goalies in Anderson and Campbell in the last 3 years?

Neither of which will be on the roster to start next season, hence why I said good luck finding a competent goaltender, unless Mrazek is the plan...

Have you been following the developing careers of Matthew Knies, Topi Niemia and Dryden McKay lately as they move closer to playing for the Leafs?

Just curious. Why were both goalies scapegoated after losing in the playoffs?
