The word is Letang is close to being re-signed at 3 years - this is very good news. This points to Malkin being brought back at 3 years as well which locks up the core into 2024-2025.

Hextall makes a splash on draft day and uses the first round pick as a piece to acquire Miller from Vancouver. Sullivan has the ability to experiment with Miller and Malkin and can flip one to C and the other to LW if he so desires. The top-six stays loaded with Rakell also coming back as well and Sullivan can bump him up or down with Crosby or Malkin.

Bottom-six keeps some familiar faces with O'Connor and Puustinen bumping up to full-time NHL status. Carter takes the 4C role which suits him best at this point of his career. Zohorna and Poulin are most likely the first to be called up if needed.

Each defensive pairing has an offensive minded player (Letang, Matheson, Joseph). Schenn is acquired as part of the Miller trade. He comes with a cheap salary and fits in as a solid top-4 defensemen.

Backup goaltender is settled with DeSmith.

2023 Trade Deadline: Hextall will grab a depth defensemen and/or a solid bottom-six player (maybe McGinn is traded as a piece).
