Mode - plafond salarial: Basique

Description

Edmonton doesn't want to pay Kane 7+ mil a year, sharks want nothing to do with him, once the contract termination is overruled the sharks have to take Kane back he still has 3 year 7 mil on his deal. after scoring 35 goals in 57 games with no off ice issues teams will be interested. sharks elect to send him back to Edmonton where he was happy, sharks take on Kassian and retain 2 mil so they can afford him, and we get a 1st and a 2nd for the deal.
next we move Karlsson for Seguin solidifying our forward depth but weakening our D.
next we make a bold move and deal Meier Merkley and a 1st for Mercer and Severson, sharks take a hit offensively but gain a huge plus defensively.
Balcers, Simek, Hill, and Dahlen are all moved to give them a better chance to succeed as they no longer fit our plans.
to help fill Meier shoes we grab Marchment to add size and skill.
Draft we grad a solid D prosect in Mintyukov who has all the tools but needs to work on his D, 3-4 he is a project and will be 3-4 years before hes ready for top 4 min but could be a top pairing stud if he corrects his D concerns.
team has toughness with Marchment, Kassian, Knyzhov, Megna, Meloche.
speed with Eklund Mercer Bordeleau Labanc and Gregor
Team would be strong defensively, and offensively and if the goal-tending lives up to their potential/ expectation this would be a playoff team with the potential to make some noise.
I would expect 245/250 goals for with 235/240 against and a 46-26-10 record or 102 points.
that would have put us just ahead of Kings, knights, stars, and Pred's for the 6th seed last year.

If Kane wins the appeal he would be sharks property again, kanes goal ii would think is to lose the hearing but be awarded some compensation. if the termination is overturned however his deal would be reinstated and he would be back with the sharks.

sharks would know he has value and not buy him out, prefer to make a deal to get something even if it means retaining some. Edmonton would be able to find a Kassian replacement for around 1 mil and that would mean Kane would only cost them 3 mil a year difference from what they already have. seems like something they would do especially if McDavid wants this.

Neither party wants the contract to be reinstated. This is going to end like the Mike Richards' termination. Kane will get 50-70% of his remaining contract value over a term that is favorable to the Sharks' cap situation.

the difference is the Richards incident was a one time thing that forced the termination and NHL was against it this time it was due to repeat offenses and the NHL was in favor of the termination. have a strong belief either the contact is fully terminated for cause and Kane is given nothing. but to me if the contract is reinstated (and that is still a possibility) sharks could use that to make some lemonade from the lemon. honestly it's in Kane's best interest that the termination not be overruled because there are a few teams who might give him 7+ for 3-4 years if he hits FA.

Or teams can know that there is no way the sharks are gonna want Kane on their team so just be patient and wait for the buyout. Buyout players normally always sign way lower because they have money still coming in from their last contract

it's 2 years as Meier is still a RFA at the end of his deal and most likely you would resign him for 7-8 years anyways.
I'd swap mercer with holtz but the 1st would become a 2nd.

why would the sharks buy him out though? he is worth his contract! sharks wont hurt their cap now and in the future and help other teams out of spite, they would keep him and work on mending the fence in hopes a team gets desperate and offers a fair value.

Bill Daly came out in support of the Richards' termination and settlement and said that realistically the player could have gotten nothing. GMs didn't like it because it essentially gave the Kings a free pass out of their cap woes at the time.

An arbiter isn't in the business of awarding an outcome that neither party wants. They listen to both parties asks, and settle somewhere in the middle. Kane wants 100% of the money he is owed, but wants to remain a UFA. San Jose wants to be rid of his contract without any cap ramifications or having to pay anything. Both sides agree the player should be a UFA this summer. The only thing left to argue about is how much money Kane will get from San Jose.

Very good job! I hope this works for the Oilers. Kane is exactly what we needed this season, the problem is if we sign him we're gonna be recreating the depth holes we just fixed. We may not need a replacement for Kassian if Kane comes because Niemelainen could easily be one of the best hitters in the league, but he needs to improve on his mobility. I hope he did.

reasonable but if the party (Kane) violated clauses in his contract and NHL players conduct policy like he did he might have no choice but to rule in favor of the sharks.

I can see that but if their is cause then they might not have a say. I honestly think they filed the appeal for this very reason with little to no expectation of it being ruled in their favor.
they HAVE to do something but i don't think Kane has much room to stand after this whole ordeal.

i understand, but a guy who just scored 35 goals in 57 games and would be had for only 3 years 7 mil a year is a high value. on the open market I could see Kane getting 4-5 years 8+ if a team is desperate for scoring.

Ive seen crazier things, but i don't see a chance on the open market where 3 years 7 mil is the ceiling for a guy who was on a 50+ goal pace the year before.

i dont see this as a good move for SJ anyways. Yea y'all get a 1st and a 2nd but you are having to retain for 3 years and take on a bad Kassian deal. Y'all need to compete or tear it down. this move just makes y'all hang in the mushy middle.

The Canes would probably take Kane with no retention if you are moving him for a little. Give you Gardiner and something small. Buy out and Gardiner and still have more cap space.

In a vacuum maybe, but that's not what's happening here. Like it or not, this issue has grown beyond just Evander Kane's contract. If they're allowed to terminate contracts with no repercussions, then other GMs are going to try to do the same in the future when a player repeatedly shows up late for practice.

If you sign the contract, you're stuck with it until it ends. Short of a player being convicted of a felony and not being available to play because they're in prison or got deported, the contract is guaranteed. If you want to be rid of it, trade it or buy it out.

I don't know, I like the lineup i posted above. I feel that lineup could easily challenge for a playoff spot, and we do have one of the deeper prospect pools in hockey (ranked 7th right now) and that will slowly filter into the lineup adding more youth and skill plus with a deep prospect pool and almost all our pics we could trade for players we need or add to move salary as needed.

except every contract has stipulations that allows the ownership to terminate the deal. you can always argue the validity of the reasoning, and lawyers do this all the time! at the end of the day if it was justified and the sharks and the NHL feel it is then this could very well end with nothing owed by the sharks. LA settled because they were worried they might not win even and hedged their bet with what they thought was reasonable. even if the arbitrator rules in favor of the sharks or Kane this still could go to court.

I truly have no idea exactly how this plays out but it could end up ugly, or it could go away. time will tell.

It’s one year as no team is qualifying him at $10 million. And an extension cannot be done before draft.

Mercer, Holtz and the 1st all have good chances of being as good, if not, better than Meier. At a fraction of the cost.
