Objectively the value is definitely there in the Wild trade, but for the Wild themselves that doesn't make sense. They certainly don't need more LHD prospects, and even though Johnson could play right-side due to his skating Minnie fans continually say they don't want him. If Portillo's reason to not sign in Buffalo is because we have Levi and UPL in the pipeline, then he wouldn't be signing in Minnie either, as they have Wallstadt. I could see Huglen or Costantini drawing interest from the Wild, as centers are what they need

Out of curiosity what would you value Samuelsson at? Or is he really off the table? Didn’t know if they put Powers in the top spot with Dahlin.

Definitely not available. Big D-man who is efficient in all aspects of the game. Defensively he is a beast to play against and has a long reach, even for a 6'4'' defender. Doesn't toss his weight around needlessly but will make a smart hit to separate a player from the puck. His mobility is very good and it is his poise that strikes me most about him. Offensively he probably will average 20-25 points in a season so nothing incredible but a very valuable guy nonetheless. His current value is maybe an NHL ready wing prospect or goalie prospect but once he gets a full season under his belt his value should cement him as a top 4 defensive minded D-man. Comparable in many ways to Pelech imo

I think it’s an interesting return. The only NHL player is Mittelstadt, so Minnesota gains $6.5M in cap they can use to re-sign Fiala.

Absolutely agree. Sure some of the pieces were getting back are not ideal fits, but they’re good prospects and we gain cap space to maybe pull the trigger on unloading some of those LHD prospects for something else.

I think Hartman with Ek and Foligno could really do well replacing Greenway. This is the type of value that would force BG to actually consider moving Greenway.

Great input, thank you! I was just curious if the Blues emerge as trade partners to get a cheap young LD to play with Parayko and I was looking at Samuelsson as an option. I figured the Blues could manage to send over Perunovich who is our top defensive prospect who would slide into the 1LD spot with Dahlin or the 2LD spot with Henri, along with someone like Brown or Kostin? I would even say Asplund + Samuelsson for Perunovich + Kostin/Brown + 2nd round pick, but I don’t want to be too advantageous. I’d be perfectly okay with Perunovich and Kostin for Samuelsson too. What are your thoughts? Would appreciate your feedback as a Buffalo fan (I assume you’re a Sabres fan with your knowledge).

Minnesota declines easily. We don't need an ld prospect, nor do we need a G that will be backup to Jesper wallstedt in AHL. Also greenway wasn't rewarded with 3 years extension to be traded. If Guerin decides to trade dumba, it would be for pieces different from these

Nut players like greenway aren't extended right away then traded. That sets bad precedent. Plus don't see the 3rd line getting broken up for at least a year. Cap space really means nothing as Russo said, Guerin know what he's doing bu trading for jost, giving greenway extension and not offering one to fiala

It's been reported no matter what fiala isn't being kept. I think what people need to understand., Guerin hates fiala. Dean Evason crashes with fiala. Dating back to when fiala rejected Guerin contract extension, that was the end for him in Minnesota.

Idk I can’t see greenway going anywhere. I more likely see hartman being traded as a rental center and greenway held on to. Plus Johnson and Portillo don’t make a ton of sense for the wilds farm system needs.

Everyone is available for a price, especially when you’re in a cap crunch. this is a lot of good prospects coming back.

Whether or not they are good is irrelevant. Getting another lhd prospect to go along with our 4 current ones all of which have solid nhl potential doesn’t make any sense from a wild standpoint. They’d be much better off with a rw or c prospect coming in the deal than the smith.

I mean ideally yeah, but if this packaged is offered, imo it’s too good to pass up. You flip some prospects later for other prospects if you want.

Buffalo doesn't consider that... That's the equivalent of three first round pick and a really good goalie prospect for a bottom 6 forward and a rental. I really like Dumba and Greenway but it's just poor asset management for Buffalo to pay all that and end up with only 30-35 points in production after one year.

Samuelsson is just getting his NHL career started, no way he is getting moved. Trading him for a more offensive minded but worse defensive prospect and a forward prospect who doesnt produce even in the AHL isnt value. Fair value would be someone like Barbashev or Neighbours. And Asplund isnt a throw in to any trade, hes also just scratching the surface of his potential.
