Agree, I don't see him being traded to the Canes.

You never know what management is thinking. True, past experiences with Canes management have pointed to them not paying up for a rental but maybe they think Miller can put them over the top? Maybe ownership is pressuring them to go for it? You don’t know what the situation is so Miller to the Canes is still a possibility

I agree that he's not a long term add for the Canes.

That being said, he goes for more than that at the deadline, which would also be a good time for the Canes to add him *if* he's still available. IMO, as fans, when our teams are contenders we value 1st round picks wayyyyy higher than our actual GM's.

Even if this were the case there are better options in FA or trade that would allow the canes to have longer term control versus it being a pure rental. JTM is a very good player but it’s not like he’s a unique talent.

In fairness, he finished 9th in scoring this year and was a game changer for a not-so-good Canucks team. There's absolutely a ton of value in the Canes (or any team, not just singling them out) in adding him (especially retained) for a 1 off. Miller at half price potentially allows a team to add another top player at the same time.

Don’t disagree and would be fine with a first plus a B type prospect. But if you post those types of returns on here they get killed bc Nucks fans think he’ll get 3-4 high end assets for a rental

Oh for sure. I mean, I think the Nucks could probably do quite well if Miller is allowed to negotiate an extension somewhere...To me, an extended Miller is worth more than Pageau a few years ago (1st+2nd+3rd). Maybe something along the lines of the heist that GMPV got for Hampus Lindholm? If it's just as a rental, I'm thinking Matt Duchene to Columbus (1st+conditional 1st based on re-signing (not a thing anymore)+Solid prospect at the time (Abramov)+fringy postpect (Davidsson)...That'd be along the lines of 1st+Drury/Suzuki+some thing minor-ish?

The Matt Duchene comp makes sense and I think would be fair. I’d do a first Suzuki and some kind of conditional pick based on playoff performance or how far they get. I just doubt nucks fans would take that
