terrible take as well on your part, 1st sharks went like 15 year as a legit cup contender and we’re paying the price for that now, mostly because of the desperation attempts at the end of our run to try and get that cup, every team after a long sustained run like ours has to reset and rebuild.
Lucic cap hit is the issue not his actual dollars and only 3-5 teams have the cap space to take him on and they are rebuilding and a 35 year old enforcer past his prime is not what they are looking for so he is a cap dump.
plus his NTC will keep him out of places like seattle or arizona.
and Monahan could recover, or not and that’s a risk that’s even more compounded with his bad hip and 6+ mil cap hit and salary.
the other problem is everyone in the NHL knows you need to shed cap to sign your FA & RFA this year.
act blind all you want you know i’m being logical here.

I never said Lucic wasn't a cap dump and he literally already waived to Seattle, plus it's very close to home for him.

Monahan doesn't have a bad hip anymore, that was the entire purpose of the surgery. He will either be fully healthy and likely revamp his game (likely scenario) or he will have something go wrong from the surgery and be on LTIR until the contract ends.

I have no problem paying to move Lucic because he's a legitimate 4th liner who's only role is an enforcer at this point but I definitely disagree with paying to move Monahan who is not a 4th liner at all when healthy

the problem is Monanah has 3 straight years of diminishing play. yes he is only 27 and should be in his prime but the history isn’t good. and hip issues have a tendency to linger even after surgery. if i was a GM i wouldn’t take him on without a high pick coming with him. Maybe someone bites but i wouldn’t count on it. sharks are in a similar situation with Labanc! maybe he returns to form and is they player we signed 2 years ago, but my money is on him not looking great next year after a bad shoulder injury.

3? Do you really count 19/20 when his scoring went back to his career average diminishing play? His last hip surgery went excellent, there is little reason to think this one wont too. Plus he starts skating this month. Teams will have ample time to determine if he is recovering or not

18/19 34 goals over a ppg
19/20 22 goals .68 ppg
20/21 10 goals .56 ppg
21/22 8 goals .41 ppg
yes this is a trend. and even if the surgery went excellent there is still a risk of scar tissue buildup, and decreased mobility or strength in his hips. and 27 with 2 hip surgeries is a very big red flag!

Your problem is you are acting like 18/19 was anywhere near his average, in reality he way over achieved that year

he did!! and it was an amazing year no doubt! think what kind of return you could have gotten from him after that year!!! but it still proves my point.
I like the guy and i would be very happy to see him prove me wrong next year! but the point is this is a leauge of “what have you done lately” and lately he is having a negative trend and with a high cap hit most teams will be wary and hesitant to take on his cap when there are soooo many plus players who would sign for cheaper in FA

You have to understand that I am not expecting a contender to be paying for him nor a team to pay a high price for him. I expect a young team with cap space and not fully expecting to make the playoffs to get him for almost free then flip him at the deadline for more value. Any acquiring tea. Would also have full access to his medicals before a trade. Something us fans are not privé to
