Devils Trade For Pasta

Créé par: srof12

Description
Not saying I would or wouldn’t do this from a Devils perspective, but this is what it could cost.

> Lucic brought back a No. 13 pick, a future No. 1 goalie and a 22-year-old defenseman who played 42 games the following season. If the Bruins determine, on July 13 or shortly after, that extending Pastrnak is not possible, the ask for No. 88 will be higher.
>
> A 2023 first-rounder would be nonnegotiable. They would want a 2023 second-rounder also. It wouldn’t end there. A young NHL player and high-end prospect would round out the package.

2022 2nd OA probably not in play, Pasta won't get traded before the draft.

I probably go for a cheaper option than Val if this is the trade (plus he hates Ruff).

Not really sure why there is Lucic comparison but whatever. Holtz is a good start but no protection on the 1st if Boqvist and the 2nd are the other pieces.

Maybe signing someone like Nino or try to trade for Poolparty instead of signing Val.

first round picks aren't traded without protection anymore.

The Lucic comparison is from the linked Athletic article where they talk about what Lucic got as a return. It's the context to how they got this "A 2023 first-rounder would be nonnegotiable. They would want a 2023 second-rounder also. It wouldn’t end there. A young NHL player and high-end prospect would round out the package."

Highly doubt any team trades an unprotected 1st, even for someone as good as Pasta.

Change the 3rd/4th pieces or Pastrnak can just stay in Boston.

Rangers traded their 1st this year and it was unprotected

Boston traded their 1st this year and it was unprotected

No way in hell is Boston trading Pasta only to have to wait till next years draft to make a pick that is Top 5 protected

The Rangers pick was literally a 2nd rounder unless they made the ECF lol

TDL deals are obviously very different.

That's not a protection, that's a condition lol

Well it doesn't seem like they're gonna trade him before this years draft, so if they want a 1st back it's gonna be 2023.

Yeah so why would you use an obviously non-comparable situation here? You're not making your argument any stronger. "top 28 protection" was functionally the condition on that pick lmao

TDL deals when you know those picks are not lottery are non-comparable.

Reinhart, Eichel, Karlsson, Duchene etc are the comparable here and those types of trades are never unprotected firsts. Top 5 protection after the 22 draft is perfectly reasonable.

Eichel and Reinhart were top 10 protected too. That seems to be a baseline here. Top 5 is pretty generous. Plus I don't think this Devils team would pick top 5 anyways lol

No, its missing losing the forrest for the trees. It's incredibly modest and offseason trades with first rounders always carry protection.

Big difference between a condition and a protection.

Protection would be if the pick was within a range then the pick in the same round gets moved to the following season. In a condition the pick can change rounds, be in the same draft year, change to following year etc. How is this so hard to understand?

There's your3rd/4th pieces. Boqvist is a 30 to 40 point young center with potential to get a bit better. As a 4th piece, that's pretty damn good. You could swap that out for any prospect not named Luke Hughes if you'd prefer.

That's your perspective. Boqvist will be 24 in October and has slightly improved the past 3 years. Swap him for another prospect instead. Reilly Walsh/Nolan Foote maybe.

they are literally both conditions on the pick. there's no formal distinction between protection and condition.

Sure, Walsh or Foote would work there too. Neither of those guys have proved anything at the NHL level though, so in my opinion, Boqvist has more value.
