As much as I love Patches, I think the Canes would be more interested in Marchy based on term remaining and cap hit. Get a third team to retain and I could see the Canes making that move. But what to give up. Even with a bit of a disappointing year for Necas, I would still value him a bit higher than Marchy based on age and potential, and Drury, Morrow, and Kochetkov are off limits. Probably Koivunen as well.

Forsberg seems unlikely. He has 1 40 goals year and will get get paid accordingly. Unlikely to match his contract past year 2. Him and Gaudreau seem like the epitome of contracts that the Canes FO avoids.

You’re reaching really hard to fight that 30 year olds don’t live up to their contracts by trying to compare to a non comparable situation. He’ll get around 9 million x 7 from someone. He might be worth that for 3 seasons. Maybe.

You’re right every player should retire after his age 30 or 31 season. They’re all trash and can’t be worth whatever they make.

Players peak around age 27-28, that means once they're past that they won't be as good. Some players play well past 30 like Pavelski but some get paid too much and can cripple a teams cap like parise on MIN, most are not too bad but still become overpaid during the contract. Staal is good but he shouldn't be making 6M.

Forsberg will get a 7yr deal for more than 8M, someone will give it to him but just like dougie hamilton, forsberg will go to a team with a lot of cap space and not the hurricanes

Parise and Suter signed 13 year contracts. That’s illegal now. Dougie was injured all season. Another bad example. Saying I won’t sign a player because he might not live up to his contract in 5 years is how you’ll always stay playoff competitive but struggle to win a cup. Also if that you philosophy you can never let an RFA walk because those are the guys you have to sign til they’re 30.

When Aho hits UFA is CAR gonna let him walk because he’s gonna get a raise and by the time that contract ends he’ll likely be 33-34?

Also 8.5M won’t look as bad when Forsberg contract ends because of the significant cap raise that’s coming once the players pay back the escrow they owe, which is either after 22-23 or 23-24.
