Can't see the Leafs being able to afford JVR, Komarov and Bozak. And good organizations find a way to replace players about 30 years of age with cheaper, younger players.

TO BE FAIR, I don't think extensions are misguided or hurting but it depends on what the extensions look like.

For example: Bozak, if we decide Matthews/Nylander are too good to split apart who becomes our third line center? Personally I think in a couple years Adam Brooks could be our guy, so maybe we extend Bozak for 2 years at 3.5m and when we have an NHL ready center prospect we trade him or let his contract expire (depending on development time).

JVR, if he REALLY wants to stay here, let him sign a 5.75m x 5 year deal and we can trade him later on, and if we don't his contract ends at 33ish and we move on

As far as I know Rychel is not eligible for the expansion draft, right now on the roster you would have B.Smith, Fehr as forwards and Marincin, Marchenko as defenders, Sparks and Bibeau as G available for Vegas to pick. That or Vegas selects a UFA and nobody is taken, to me more realistic option right now.
Bozak and Komarov in my opinion will be extended around 3 years, Bozak better face off guy we have and improving defensively with Babcok, Komarov our best defensive forward can play anywhere but golie...JVR is liked by coaching staff and Lou, if he is not too greedy should also be extended
