So, I used to think we could swing giving Kane a lower contract because of his reputation. However, because he's playing incredibly well with our top talent, and he's kept squeaky clean off the ice, he must get paid. I prefer giving longer term in the pursuit of lowering the AAV. Go all in NOW. Also his cap matches Hyman's. I think they bring as much value, aside from Kane's gaudy scoring stats.
I think the kids (Jesse, McLeod, Yamo) could all be signed to matching contracts. Yamo may be the most worthy of a higher salary. Jesse is a great defensive forward, but his difficulty finishing may prove to be a benefit for the Oilers' cap situation. McLeod is great, but he's got more growing to do still.
We MUST get rid of Kassian. In these playoffs so far, he has been horrendous. I heart Ottawa liked him, so I chose them, but it could be any team that's willing to take on some cap, with a promising, albeit stagnating, prospect and a pick as sweeteners.
Foegele didn't work out, and I think that what he brings can be replaced with Holloway. Admittedly, I don't know much about Dermott, but his advanced analytics show a low-event defensive shut down depth D. This trade may not be very realistic for Vancouver to take, as a team looking to compete for the playoffs, but Foegele shows flashes of absolute brilliance, and I think he needs more consistent, high end linemates (Horvat?) and to not play a checking role.
Run with Smith and Skinner as the goalie duo. Skinner must be ready by now, and Smith is showing that he still has it in him to play limited games. Play them around 40 games each.
Keith... I would love for him to retire to access that cap recapture. That would allow this team to add yet another piece, and really push to be a full on cup contender by adding even more pieces. However, I don't see that happening for several reasons (He wouldn't want to be a burden on Chicago, wants to still get paid, ego). That being said, I can hope that he ends up on LTIR at least.
This team still has cap space to add, and all their first round picks. And if Keith isn't on LTIR, we can even accommodate that.
Yes, they could. But I don't see that as a necessity as of now. Also, if next season pans out this way, they will have enough cap space to make a big move at the deadline.
