So the article I don't give alot of credibility to be honest, could be true but could also be bs hard to say. Teams have moved alot of LTIR contracts in recent history so I don't know why this point would be bad publicity but whatever. Personally to me it sounds like the author likely made a claim that a deal with Arizona a sure thing and this is a way of protecting us reputation.
With the Little trade, Arizona traded for Smith after he had a 50 point in 38 game season. Little was just an add on that saves the Jets money and helps Arizona's cap situation so no real value there.
As for your trades here, specifically the Weber one, Montreal likely doesn't get anything for him from Arizona if it does happen. Habs save $6M in actual dollars and Arizona gets some help with the cap. It's a win win trade. Even for a wealthy team like Montreal it is still a business and saving that money is important.
For the Detroit trade, we aren't trading our first round pick at all. Petry to Detroit doesn't really make much sense for Detroit either. Considering his age and contract there is no reason for a team to pay much for him, especially Detroit.
Pittsburgh said already they are not trading first round picks so they aren't trading one to dump Zucker, also it wouldn't cost that much to move him.
With the Toronto trade I'm one of the people who feel Muzzin had very little to no value and his game and suffered lately but I don't think it costs a first to move him. He also had trade protection and would have to approve any trade he is involved in.
Dadonov is still a 20 goal scorer and also won't cost a first to move although I do feel Vegas, with the situation they are in, will have to pay to move him. He also has some trade protection.
Drouin definitely isn't worth a first right now, even with retention. If he comes back this year and starts to play well they might get a second from a contender but Edmonton definitely is not that team, they have younger better options at wing that they will have a hard time signing.
Also with the talent projected in this draft I doubt alot of teams trade their firsts.
Also isn't Montreal over the cap? I don't see them taking on any more big cap hits.
